I had an idea.

I had an idea the other day to create an intake fan on the side pannel of a case and make some sort of a port that goes from the fan to the heatsink. This way you could use a 120mm fan to cool your CPU. Let me know what you guys think of that. Of course if it does not work you can always just have another fan in your case.

i saw a case fan once with a plastic attachment that went directly to the processor and enclosed it. It was supposed work really well cuz often fans on processors bring back in air that they just pushed out back to the heatsink.

Thats interesting. I wonder how well it worked. Let me know if you have a link

i got a plastic duct directly from the top of my 38*60mm delta, sittin on the top of my alpha pal6035, leading to the original fan from the hsf ( a 5000rpm ys tech) that sits on the back of my rig , stuck over a hole to directly exhaust the hot air 8)

Jolly good. I think that I will try this out and see what happens.

Re: I had an idea.

in the red circle ya can see the plastic ducting (made from document foil) that leads from the rear exhaust for the cpu air (my alpha pal6035 is sucking air) to the cpu. the hot air is being exhausted outa the case, so it takes more time for the inside to heat up. i never seen my northbroidge temps rise more than 3 degrees celsius over ambient temp. the ducting managed to sink the cpu temps for about 2 to 3 degrees (not much, but logical since i got an insane aircooling ( when the hsf is dustfree, my thunderbird 1gig@1,2gig doesn't get over 37 degrees celsius ( now the has is rather dirty, i havent cleaned for 'bout 4 months and the alphas like to get rather dirty 'caused ba the small and thight placed fins) my  temps may got up to 47 degrees under full load. gonna get me some compressed air to clean it. :P

Re: I had an idea.

it is either exhausting hot air (much better than blowing it inside tha case) or sucking in cold air to supply ya heatsink with and pushes temps down 8)

Re: I had an idea.

hey thats good idea... whynot stick it to outside. make a hole in your wall and stick it outside. or even better stick it to your AC! :D

I like the idea of that cooling method though

Re: I had an idea.

Actually all of our new Dell's at work have a large green duct that takes air from the back and route's it straight to the processor of course with P-4's you need the coolest air you can get.

just get liquid nitrogen better than anything

Re: I had an idea.

na, a good cooling solution is one that is savely contained inside ya puter

Re: I had an idea.

ya u can get potasium (K) and put it in water(H2O) and then place it in ur coputer.. see what happens
