use laptop screen on a pc??
 

hey guys, i posted this in the hardware section, but i was told maybe you guys could help.  

is it possible to use a laptop lcd screen on pc?  you can get them for dirt on ebay.  also, i've found a b&W lcd touch screen from a laptop, could this be used somehow? thanks alot people.  later.

hmm, maybe there are ways to connect it up to the dvi interface if ya grca got one, try searching the web and especially newsgroups for pin assignments. whish ya good luck, if ya bring it, write an article on it for us ;D

yeah man, if i get it done i will tell y'all about it.  ok, i know next to nothing about laptops, all pc experience here.  what is the dvi interface?  and grca?  never seen that before either.  could you point me to some newsgroups?  thanks alot man. later.

grca means graphics card and dvi is digital video interface i think, but i dont know for shure. it is sometimes seen as a double row of pins on ya graffix card, looking somehow like a 20 pin floppy connector.

Well well well. Frank is back in da house.

And yes I do have pretty much the same predicament: how to wire up my 9.5" lcd to my mp3 box (that's a project in the works)... As I write this, i've found one option: http://earthlcd.com/controllers.htm. The only problem with that is that it's not cheap.

I've seen a site where they explain the wiring but can't find the damn place anymore. If/when I find it, i'll post it RIGHT HERE.

thats what i'm workin on to, a car mp3 box.  i guess i'm just gonna end up using a character lcd display.  which is fine.  but one day it would be great to have a touch lcd screen.  anyway, maybe when i get rich.  thanks everyone!  great forum by the way. later.

mine is comming from ebay. As for the pinout of the plugs, i'll see a tech tomorrow (ibm store). He should know where to look for that.

thanks but that's not what I (we) need. I need the pin layout for the connector that goes from the laptop lcd to laptop mobo/video card. The info you gave is good to have but not what's needed.

ok perhaps you don't get my point of my music box project: for one, I want a project to do. #2 I want music in my room. #3 I NEED to make a few guides for the site as we are in need of a few. #4 I have moded anything in too long (a year?). I'll try to make as many guides as needed (lcd module, lcd screen, making of the box, testing of the cpu and hsf...)
