Best graphics for the money?
I was looking into getting a new card for my computer. I was looking at the Radeon 9000Pro and the Radeon 8500. If you know of any other cards that can do better than these for less than $200, please share! :D

could get a nice Gainward GeForce 4 ti4200 128M from newegg.com for $187
It's rated better then radeon8500 (based on 3dmark 2001se) |
Do you know what you are looking for, Do some reasearch and look at features of each brand card. Then just go to www.pricewatch.com and search for it. Make sure to check the retailer you wish to order from on www.retailerratings.com and make sure that they dont have a bad rating so you dont get screwed. If you dont know what you are looking at a good place to compare features is http://www.community.tomshardware.co...raphic_us.html
Hope this helps. |
I typed an incorrect link above the correct address is
www.resellerratings.com |
Thanks for the link. I guess all I really need to know is, out of the two, whats the better card?
|
Well, if you don't need the video card right away, the GeForce4 will be much better because the GeForce 5's should be coming out in a couple of months, and then the GeForce 4's will hit very low prices.

I have tried a large number of video cards. Now, I always try to match the card with my requirements. I always seek the best 2D I can get, along with decent performance. Matrox is overrated, in my estimate. ATI 7000 cards are cheap and very good. I like the GeF4MX420/440 cards very much. 2D is excellent, performance is very nice, and they are inexpensive here. The Oxygen card I had was a dud, ditto the TNT2 Diamond 770.

I have a TNT 64MB in my computer right now. I don't need an awsome card, just something that will do a good job. I've heard about driver problems and the fact that ATI's slowly fading out the 8500 line of cards. Would I better off to get 9000Pro?
|
IMO Just stick with NV ati always has some sort of driver prollem, bios conflict or somthing like that. I look at the net quite often and cant remember ever hearing on a Gforce 4 of any type. You wanna buy the best card you can afford, dont always go looking for the best deal(you will often get shafted). I would look at a G4 Ti 4400.(starting around 200) Still a little pricey, you will have plenty of features, like tv out, and a card that you can keep around for longet than one year. Id thats a little high still theres always the 440 which is still a hella card. I hope this helps

I would have to agree that ATI is known for having driver issues. If you do buy an ATI card I recomend that you pray to god for driver compatibility.
|
Nvidia rarely has any driver issues, or any thing in that sense that causes hassles. They are also more backwards compatible than the ATI's. |
For the price of getting the ATI cards, you can get a GeForce4TI 4200 or 4400. I too believe that Nvidia-based cards are better than ATI. With the GeForce4TI card it will last u a longer time than the ATI cards.
|
yep go with a geforce4 4200
|
the more i find out bout them the more nvidia murders 'em
