Stock Intel 478 cooler
Hi, i have the p4 1.6 and i wonder how high i can overclock it with the stock fan? I'm shooting for 2.4 ghz but dont want to risk it before i know.. how much can it cool?
|
the stock fan is very slow and moves very low about of air
it would be dangerous around 1.8GHz with a stock 2.6 with stock is just impossible speed will be lowered because of the thermal diode if it gets too hot high performance hsfs or liquid coolings and other hardcore coolings can get it up to 2.6GHz |
478 cooler
 I got a diff fan for it.. didnt want to take the chance with the stock fan, though it is alot louder now ;(.. on here somewhere i read about the ball bearing on the fan getting noisy.. that seems to be happening.. not dusty , i bet its just a bad fan anyway.. was only $15 its a vantec rated at 3 ghz..

sometimes its the blade design that makes it loud
also a large amount of air moving in a small area also makes loud noise so dont worry too much tell us how ur overclocking adventure goes |
overclocking adventure
8) I first went to 2.1 ghz *the other default setting along with 1.6 for my board p4t533-c* and went through pc and 3d mark tests.. everything seemed fine so i put on some liquid thermal stuff and put her to the limit *150/38 is the highest setting the mboard will allow* that put it to 2.4 .. i read in an article http://www.pcstats.com/articleview.c...id=1130&page=1 that at 2.4 stability problems would be encountered and i would need to increase voltage to 1.65.. i never experienced the problems so kept it at 1.5.. now off to video card adventures..

wait
so what speed is it now? |
u should go to
http://www.overclockers.com take a look in the CPU Database see what speed ppl are overclocking to and find the most common and usualy thats the place to stop |
btw is urs a northwood?
1.6As are very easy to OC |
OC
Yes its 1.6a.. the asus p4t533-c only supports 150 fsb so i can only get up to 2.4 ghz .. i was going to shoot for 2.6 but 2.4 will have to do
|
will have to do???
lol 2.4 is friggin fast twice the number of my 1.2Ghz Athlon TB sigh... this comp is getting too old for competitions... what is ur temperature at? |
Temperature
was at 110 F but i put silver thermal stuff on it and highest ive seen is 104F
|
 We have the same CPU, Intel Northwood Pentium 4 1.6A. But diffrent cooling scheme... I shifted to water cooling when I decided to OC'ed. To achieve a 2.4Ghz or even 2.6Ghz VCore must be 1.6 V or instability will occur if use for a long time. Although I did not pushed my processor to the limit, I stayed and remained content with 2.24 Ghz 1.58 V Vcore. fast enough...I'm the fastest PC here in my town. You can't find any >2.0 Ghz Processor here. Computer shop don't sell >2.0 Ghz. I don't know Y...Lots of stock NO DEMANDS I think.
