More layoffs?
Last year the company I work for laid off 600 people. 300 were where I work in corporate. Then they did a smaller layoff of about 250 people nationwide. In the beginning of this year they did a "restructuring" of some of the departments and terminated about 50 people and about 2 months ago they did another restructing and terminated only 20 people. They anounced yesterday that they are doing another layoff. Not as big as the first they said. You will know in 30 days if you are one of the ones affected. With so few people left, I am starting to get nervous. Is anyone else experiencing this where you work?
|
Geez, who many people are left?
If you read Fucked Company you will see that the same thing is going on all over the world. Time to start passing out the resume! |
I dont have a job, so I dont' have to worry about this :)
|
Keeps happening everywhere. In my area Boeing has layed off 30k people in just over a year. :shake:
relize that the stock market is in the biggest decline since 1937! Pay off your bills, save your money, and sharpen up your resume. if you're lucky you may not need it :) |
Yah I'm one of the not so lucky people that got laid off. What sux's is they were able to screw me out of my severance (only get 2 wks after three years of work).
THey gave me three months notice with an open date of termination so now they don't have to pay me diddly... "We think it's around this or this time... we'll let you know" It's been two and a half months now and I still don't know. I hope they haven't expected me to work... hehe call me super-slacker. They've had to lay of 15000 people world wide, and there expecting more cuts. Guess that's what happens when you get "merged" into a new company. |
What really sucks is these merger are just trophy/power trips for the boards and senior management, if you look at the performance of merged companies it's almost always worse for at least 5-10 years, in spite of all the cost cutting measures (you know cutting the people that actually do the work, etc) if the would just trim a few VP's and stock options, you guys could all still have jobs, maybe even produce some profit :/

sigh
past has been a junkyard, present is a waste land, future doesnt look too good either... just my pesimestic side speaking |
Evil, truer words have never been spoken...
|
Looks like I jumped off the right ship about a year ago. My old company just annouced 2000 workers are getting the ax.
|
Okay, I can make my job even better. They did "standardization" of all the job titles and their salaries. I am 5k below the minimum level for my position, but they will not increase my salary. I was told "If you threaten to quit, maybe I can get you there" Un FN believable! I just need to hold off another few months and I will leave on my own.
|
Wow that's a B**ch, our departement was re-engenered out of existance and most of the employes were found a position in one of our sister offices. The only problem is the office is like 2hrs aways.
So my co-worker asked if there was a severance package offered for those who didn't want to go that far. Since our positions are being eliminated you usually have a choice to move to the new place or take a package and leave. You know what our manager told him? "If we look into this for you, we'll take that as your two weeks notice that you are leaving." In other words, if he asks for information, he has to quit without knowing if there is a package or not. They came back to him two weeks later and told him "sry but the package was offered and expired a month ago". So he's getting laid off with nothing... Talk about corporate BS... |
You know they say the grass is always greener..., but I think the greenhouse effect is drying out everyone's grass and it looks really brown right now. Anybody got a can of green spray paint?
|
Try cutting a manager, I heard they bleed green

monkey boy G.W. Bush only know how to fight...
we all know Iraq doesnt have nuclear warheads nor does it make a big threat on USA only on Isarael so why does Bush want war on Iraq? to keep his ratings up there now that the taliban is done with of course... with the world going into pieces, how can economy get well? do they must send in land troops instead of special forces which means less casualties and less money spent? and why not spend those money on helping high tech industries... help the citizens, make our lifes better!! |
I'll have to argue with you on that E.T. So much as Iraq having nukes your right they don't. But if listen noone says they do. But they are close. What they have is chemical and biological agents. And that's a fact because Saddam has used them on his own people. Repeatedly. They only fault their is in going after Iraq is that it's taken too damn long. Clinton was a pansy with little to no backbone. I don't like war (I know what it's like I've been there.) But if we don't do something we will reget it. If nothing is going on in Iraq why have they given us the runaround for 10 years. Something needs to be done. If it can be done peacefully with inspection great, and that is also what Bush is hoping for. But he's tired of Saddam two stepping around everything like he has for 10 years and wants the crap to end. If we don't push Saddam now he'll have us by the nuts later.
|
yes, ive been expecting a healthy debate
let us continue... i do not think Iraq posses an immediate and direct threat to the USA itself but i am pretty sure they will attack the isarael sometime and the actual motive of the attack is to trick US to go into the streets and start throwing some missiles like they did in 1998 on that pill manufactoring plant. if US gets tricked into that and jumps in with full forces, the arabs will have the Americans by the throat and it will definately unite all the arabs in middle east and that is exactly what Usama Bin Laden and Saddam wants to happen well im sure all of you saw it on the news today they agreed on taking action without UN's weapon inspection |
my friend has this theory
he thinks that China has been secretly providing weapons for Iraq in order to have a fuel pipeline from Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait to china... and US wants the Iraq pipeline to India to support US im just shortening his theory, yes it sounds crazy and it is convincing when i heard the whole thing |
Geographically speaking how would this pipeline be built? Asia is a very large land mass. Russia would be a large obstacle but it's still an interesting theory. Just a little impracticle if you ask me.
|
geographically, its where the interesting facts are at
but why would you say that Russia is a large obstacle? by definitions of democracy, a democracy country should have middle class but India, China, and Russia only has rich and poor, so economically these 3 countries are communism Russia borrowed 100 billion from USA and when one country depend on US, they hate US but pretends to like them in the surface therefore, Russia shares information with China The US spy plane china took down was to try and find out this as much as possible i really dont know why they didnt use the U-2R |
Well, if you going to debate, lets cover all aspects. President Bush is doing what no other democratic country will do, including your own. What he does now will protect you and your family for decades to come. Sadam is a threat to the US, he is neck deep in financing terrorist factions. He is a ruthless dictator that puts Hitler to shame. He gassed the Iranians in that war and US Personnel in the Gulf War. He killed his own brother for his throne, and put to death another brother and wives who tried to overthrow him. He doesn't give a dam about Ottawa, Quebec or Vancouver. Sadam was/is a threat to his own Arab neighbors. As reported, during the gulf war he was only one yr away from a nuclear weapon. Sad part is we have to go it alone - as usual.
Now lets look at your own country, Canada is knee deep in malaise. You are always bad mouthing Bush and his policies. Shouldn't you be fighting like hell to maintain what freedoms you have left there in Canada ? Your PM is whimp that can't pour piss from a boot, but he has steadily eroded away your own freedoms without a whimper. The average canadian pays up to 49 percent of his income in taxes. The Canadian Gov or law enforcement can now perform " Preventive Arrest " if they think you may someday commit a crime. I posted that on here awhile back. Canadians appear to be afraid to standup- step forward and speak out against their own Gov and elected officials, too polite as one told me, but you don't have any problem bashing Bush and the USA. BTW this is your Thanksgiving wkend, what are you thankful for ? Shouldn't you be thankful for a good home, warm bed, three meals a day and some security against international terrorist like Bin and Sadam ? Well, if you are , don't thank your own Gov. or elected officials. They haven't provided it. It is because you live in the shadow of and share the North American Continent with the USA. Now here is a link that should quieten you off a little more. -------------- Canada rushing to have Cyberlaws "just like China and Iraq ------------- |
The post above as guest is mine, I wasn't logged in but thought I was.

first of all
i have not used the word you to represent a person for a country a healthy debate should not be generalized and a greater whole should not be represented by just direct speech and point and speak second of all it is my opinion that the Bush administration has kept up the war in Aghanistan instead of a short attack is to raise his rating when Bush first became the president of America, half of the people in USA did not agree with Bush and think that he stole the election. with the war on terrorism and the patriatism along comes the whole country of USA backing the government up rating has gone up to more than 80% for Bush thirdly no one says terrorism is good it is wrong but evil has its root and its reasons it is their form of revenge and i believe no one here including me approves of these horroble actions yes, lets cover all the aspects US has intervened politics in the Middle East and around the world because it has to and it is the most powerful nation in the world currently and the Arabs (not Saudi Arabians but arabs in origin) have been under the power of European colonization since long ago and has been trying to copy the western civilization for years for what? for achieving to be a nation as powerful and strong and proud as USA they have failed and failed and they are still poor so people like Usama decided to unite the arabs (himself for one) to fight against US the arabs have been under the power of USA, Europe and depended on them for years that is why there are organizations calls war on US through terrorism yes, Saddam wants to take over Kuwait for the oil deposits there perhaps we should see what UN finds first before start saying Quote:
we are a peace loving country and we support the UN in anyway we can and we fight side by side with the US we sent troops to Aghanistan and we get troops bombed by US fighters in return how ironic not many people like the government in canada, our politics is as dynamic as the US we are polite because we want peace peace by means of not bombing or shooting missiles on inocent civilian homes and pill manufactoring plants and what does this have anything to do with thanksgiving it just happened that you replied in this thread on the weekend of thanksgiving that doesnt mean this topic is designated to be debated purposely on a thanksgiving occasion Saddam is a threat to the US, yes and to the rest of the world as well weapons they have may not just effect a city but it can be in a large scale i am not criticising the people of USA nor USA it self i am criticising the governments which is dark and is backed up with propagandas that is filled with conpiracies |
You are very indecisive and inconsistent in your beliefs, in your 3rd post you said this:
Quote"monkey boy G.W. Bush only know how to fight... we all know Iraq doesnt have nuclear warheads nor does it make a big threat on USA only on Isarael " Unquote. ----------- Now in your 4th post you said this : Quote " i do not think Iraq posses an immediate and direct threat to the USA itself " Unquote. ----------- Now in your last post above you say this : Quote " Saddam is a threat to the US, yes and to the rest of the world as well" Unquote. ----------- Dude, make up your mind, is he a threat to the US and world at large or not ! Those statements sure are confusing to us poor walmart shoppers ! What ! you didn't even mention the link I provided exposing more erosion of you basic freedoms ! What to hell does it take to make you speak out against the erosion of your freedoms by your own Gov ? Are you afraid of being arrested ? Were you taught in school not to criticize your own Gov and elected officials but it's open season on other countries ? Do you like being compared to Red China and Iraq in your restriction of freedoms ? You had mentioned both before I posted. I told you what it had to do with your Thanksgiving, and elucidated it very well. Appears to me you and Bear would make a nice pair of " Matched Bookends ". You read without understanding, hear without listening, and speak inconsistently. But you never , never , never see the faults of your own country. |
i critisize Canada
i have too much to say about the government especialy the Liberal government of BC that is running by Gordon Campbell whom i have alot to disagree with but it is something foreigners need to know what exactly is going on before understanding so i did not post them here do i must say here that i hate it in order to hate it? Saddam is a threat to the US, but not directly and Isarael is part of the "rest of the world" when USA is the subject i read the article not much to say about because it is irrelevant with middle east you simply threw that into the debate to defend USA when no one is criticising the citizens of USA i am trying to have a debate here without directly saying to the other debater's face i bring out my points of view to the audience of the debate not to argue with the debaters debaters hold their own thoughts and need to speak with a neutral observer inorder to make the debate healthy and meaningful please refrain from using "you" and keep on attacking me i was only telling my friend's theory which people may not like but may be very true also i am making sense out of why 9/11 happened and what is going on around the world also i have never mentioned regarding freedom compared to china and Iraq and i repeat myself, this topic isnt designated to be debated purposely on a thanksgiving occasion |
As far as the "spy plane" (that cracked me up on the news an EP-3 is not a spy plane) that China forced down last year, that plane has a specialized mission. The U-2 does a terrific job at what it's designed for but the EP-3 is a completly diffrent animal in form, function, and mission. And econimically speaking I can see what you say about India, China, and Russia. but
Quote:
As far as President Bush furthering the conflict to gain popularity I don't see that. I truley believe he's doing what he feels is right. A fair amount of American't don't fully agree with him and if action is taken I fear he will lose popularity. But I feel it is neccessary. I've talked to many people and some truely understand the implications of the proposed action but not many. Many just fear it because they don't fully understand. If Saddam is a threat, only not an immediate threat, why should we wait? When would be a good time? Does anyone truley believe the east and west will someday get along and Saddam will just be happy with that? And more importantly what if we're all wrong. What if he is setting on a nuke right now. Survillance and intelligance can only go so far. Only one man knows exactley what he has and his intent with it. Should we allow him the time to put himself in a better postion? He's had 11 years. 3 of which there has been no inspections. In that time he has proven he has chemical and biological, because he has used them on his own people. Do you really think he would hesitate to use them on the people he hates the worst? He's just waiting for a good time to do it. Will it harm US relations with the middle east? Probably. But your harming relations with a group of people that con't even get along with themselves. Many wars have desimated that area, mostly over terroritorial dissputes. Many people in that culture look for and thrive on bloodshed, not all, but many. Few cultures still have such a war-like mentallity. They continually look for and perpetuate conflict amonst themselves, if they can have a common enemy they will join forces and work together for a while but later they go back to fight amoungst themselves. We can only walk on our toes so long. Eventually you have to step on someone else's toes. Espically if it means safe guarding your on life. |
Yeah! I made it, I am still here! I am not sure that is a good thing though. Now we are all wondering when the next round is going to be. I heard Sun, Motorola, Delta, Qwest are all laying off thousands of people.
And they say there is nothing wrong with the economy :shake: |
Yhea I've heard that. It's gettin' crazy. Glad to hear you've still got a job though. Congrat's.
