Price breakdown! How much / little did you spend???

Hello!
How much did you spend on your rig??? how does it perform..??? Do you feel you got what you paid for??? Post it here! Who spent the most for the best performance? who spent the least that really performs well? Post it up fast or not! Would love to hear what rigs / components you have at your asylum :)

lets see
it was more than a year ago...

the birth of my Thunderbird

born on August of 2001

Athlon 1.2GHz 266MHz fsb
Asus A7A266 /plain board with no onboard audio and raid
i picked the A7A266 b/c that time DDR is expensive but i know it will drop later
and A7A266 has both DDR and SDR so i got 128mb SDR first
later i got 256mb of DDR PC2100 and later one more stick of PC2100 512mb
so total of 768mb of DDR
i guess thats enuf... but i have both slots full now and mobo has no more empty slots for DDR

300 watts PSU amd certified, i used 350 first but it also killed my athlon and mobo because it wasnt a certified and in full compliance

generic yet futuristic looking case ====> cheapo with front audio and USB ports

Sony 52x CD-ROM
Creative SB Live! Platinum (something i wished for for a long time)
Geforce2 MX200 ------> recently upgraded to Geforce4 Ti4200 128mb
4.1 speakers from Altec Lansing
17' Samsung CRT monitor
40GB IBM GXP60 7200rpm ATA100 hdd
NEC Internet keyboard
Logitech Optical Wheel Mouse

all came about 1500 CDN after tax w/ monitor
14.5% tax that is...

so about 961 USD

TheRogue 11-11-2002 03:03 AM

1.53ghz Athlon
256ddr
128mb gf3 ti 200
40gb hdd
gigabyte GA-7VTXE (onboard AC'97)

Ummmmmmmm that is all I can think of... will post specs like this up soon of my other 3 pc's...

eviltechie 11-11-2002 03:52 AM

hows ur hobby of ATV now??

last time u were saying of putting that ATV-CAM online for us to see?
;)

i think ur next project is to make my comp better
lol
lets start off with a new processor

The_Other_One 11-11-2002 10:41 AM

My performace rig :)

Athlon TB 1.4GHz and Abit KT7A $230
Coolermaster HS $13
256M PC133 RAM $50
ATI Radeon 8500 64M $150
Philips 8x4x32 burner $40
Lite-On 16x40 DVD $30
Case $60
JBL PRO Full range 3" speakers "Free"
6" Bass tube w/ 100watt amp $50
1" Tweeters, 6" Woffers, 8" Passive Radiaters w/ 80watt amp $50
Maxtor 40G HD $160(LONG story...)
Axion 17" Monitor "Free"
fans $15
Optical Mouse $15

So...a bit under $900. I'd say it performs as well as could be expected. I mean, a friend of mine just build a XP1800 system(GF4 MX440) and I get MUCH better benchmarks in everything then he dose

accurateimage 11-11-2002 12:59 PM

Right on man, good to see a performance budget system making the grade! As as for my atv hobbies, they are being fixed right now for my brother and I rolled them pretty hard down an almost cliff face *LOL* was to crazy and to fun :) Nothing serious to the quads, they are bullet proof, we just got cut up and brused pretty bad and we did it in stereo! was a pretty darn sweet site to see *LOL*

eviltechie 11-11-2002 03:07 PM

can ppl post when they bought their parts for the system???

time makes the price drop
big time that is...

and AI, are u just gonna keep talking or gonna show us some video clips??
;)

accurateimage 11-11-2002 03:26 PM

:o Have not bough the stuff to convert vhs to divx or anything like that :) After looking over my pc spending I decided to put a hold on anything that relates to computers for awhile!!! Except as soon as I can get the 2800+ that will be my last purchase for this system I think... then wait 1.5 years and start all over again hehehe :) Also all of my stuff was purchased at various times from around May until now.

eviltechie 11-11-2002 05:12 PM

i think im gonna wait till the summer then buy a laptop for university

a tablet pc perhaps...

also right now, im planning to get the Vantec VA4-C7040 to cool my athlon

here is a review link posted here by Navid
it is by Viper Lair
http://www.viperlair.com/reviews/cas...aeroflow.shtml

i cant stand this delta fan anymore
living with 59dBA is driving me nuts
the TMD fan will give 38dbA which everyone can live with
thats why im planning on getting it
and it is cheap too
about 26 USD at coolerguys

11-11-2002 07:07 PM

 turn up the music dood :)

The_Other_One 11-11-2002 07:44 PM

Right on! When I cut on my rear channel(those three 6" woffers, etc...) I completely forget about all my fans in my computer

Just turn up the volume!

eviltechie 11-11-2002 07:53 PM

i forget about the noise most of the time

but sometimes i have to work without loud music because i live in an apartment

so loud noise is not acceptable

do u guys think this is worth it?

The_Other_One 11-12-2002 07:42 PM

Hmm...good point. I too get complaints about my system...when the downstairs starts vibrating  I live in a house, but that dosn't mean loud noise is acceptable...

Well, for me, fan noise isn't too bad. I'm rather used to it. My server and main computer use the same, loud HS, and both are on almost 24/7. If it where my decision, I'd look around for a more efficient HS.

eviltechie 11-12-2002 07:50 PM

the reason im looking into the Vantec's VA4-7040 is because it is quiet yet very efficient and its performance ties with the CoolerMaster HCC-001

The_Other_One 11-12-2002 08:55 PM

What about other fans? Will it really matter how quite your processor fan is if you have so many other fans?

eviltechie 11-12-2002 11:30 PM

they are fairly quiet too

i dont have any loud fans in my case except the deltan fan for the HS
