What is the best college for networking?

What is the best college, in the US,  for network engineering or networking in general?

Thanks

I dont think College is the way to go for just Networking.  I mean if you want a degree college is cool, but if you want to just get into networking there are so many tech scools out there just for that purpose.  I went to Computer Learning Center which is now bankrupt, but I was done in 7mths and had my MCSE.

Don't most larger companies look for people who have at least a 4 year degree?  I have been looking around and I have only found a few colleges that offer a network engineering major.  Many of the colleges said that there is a great deal of networking in their MIS programs.

Not really unless youre going for a management type position but if you like the hands-on like I do, then the fast-track with certs is my recommendation.  Then later when you get a job with a large company, you can school and have them bozos pay for it.

If you are really serious about Networking, then I WOULD go to college.  For one, it does give you a degree and some colleges have a Cisco University, I would go that route.

Some colleges, have a program in conjunction with Cisco Systems that actually have you aquire their certification.  I friend of my boss is urging me into one of those programs.

And I'm not sure you can get a degree in ' networking ' from anywhere.  Networking changes regularly and will probally always be an adjunct to something else. If you should get a BS in Computer Technology, then networking would be covered.
But like stated above , lots of very good technical schools and jr colleges offer 2 yr curriculum in all and various aspects of computer  courses, many with the AS degree and networking will most likely be covered.

Alot of employers like there employees to have a degree in a different area from what there main thingy is.

i.e B. Business for an I.T guy, combined with all the MS, Cisco crap is alot more appealing to an employer than a B.CompSci.

It shows diversity, employers like that.

However if you wanna go comtracting go get the B computerers boy.

Re: What is the best college for networking?

I attended Ohio University in Athens Ohio.  My Major was in Communications systems management with a specialty in DATA and Sat. coms.  I'll agree with the group that was saying if your wanting to learn alot of hands on down and dirty networking, College is not the place to get this.  However I'm 24 with seven classes left in my degree and i'm on my second third full time Job as a Network Admin in Novell, Unix and Microsoft.  I'm not a god at what I do but I"m decent.  Right now I"m stuck in a company I dont wanna be in and I"m having an impossible time getting into another job without my full degree.  That is 7 intro (econ, fin) classes that I keep getting responces saying contact us as soon as you finish you degree.

While I wont say OU is the way to go or the best college networking program out there with there ComT degree it combined with the computer sci, MIS, telecom and Bussiness schools give a person a great opertunity to taylor their education in a specific direction and there is a technical college called Hocking tech partnered with OU that offers full Cisco acadamies as well as other technical programs.

If anyone wants more info on this stuff drop me a line.

TIE (Tennessee Institute of Electronics) http://www.tie1.com offers a 16 month course that gets you your Associates degree, A+, MCSE, CNE, and CCNA for less than 20K. Plus, they have a bachelors degree program but I don't know how much more the cost is.

I'll be starting there in the spring of 2003.
