Which Motherboard Should I Get Guys?!
These are the 2 motherboards that I will either be buying. The MSI as and nforce2 chipset...and that is why I am leaning on that a little bit more.
Please check them out and tell me which is the better deal...I can always count on you guys. Thx Soyo SY-KT400 Dragon Lite Motherboard and... MSI K7N2 Delta-L nForce2 Socket A Motherboard Thx guys. |
Wait a second...where have I seen that motherboard from CiK. Heh...
Yes. That is a good deal too. Thx for the input. |
newegg has it for 88 i think
Nuttin but the best. :)
Ah. Some good news. I just found out that I don't have to pay for it. None the less I will still go for either of those motherboards. I think I'm going to go for the MSI...the guy that works down in the motherboard section of fry's electronics doesn't know shit. I asked him about the capacitor problem...he's like "Oh...sir that is due to too much power going into the motherboard. MSI never had a problem with capacitors..." So he provided no help. You guys helped alot tho, way back when, when I first posted the issue of my problems w/ my capacitors caps exploding. The cpu will be $89.90 w/ a 3 yr warranty, HS and fan. AMD Athlon XP 2000+ (sorry cik).

No such animal called "2000+ Barton".
Don't be stupid, go with the Epox board. The top Nforce2 boards out are the Asus A7N8X (Deluxe) or the Epox 8RDA(+) / 8RGA(+). Do your homework b4 you get something you'll regret. |
True that...
My 2 choices would be either the Epox or the Abit out of the nforce boards. If you don't want to go with the nforce chipset then get the Abit AT7-MAX2. |
How does the Asus A7N8X measure up?

negative I would choose the abit over the asus
Epox 8RDA3+ is the best
not 8RDA+ but 8RDA3+ you gotta get the nforce 2 ultra 400 chipset not the old A1 nforce2 for 8RDA+ also look into Abit check out www.motherboardfaqs.com to get aquinted with nforce2 before you buy and nforcershq.com as well because it can be problematic if you have bad luck |
Well I went with the Asus A7N8X Deluxe version which showed the nForce 2 Ultra chipset and came with a AMD 2.17 proc. Cant wait to get all my parts in and put together in my new case.
Don't get me wrong. I would pick an Asus over an MSI or Soyo board any day...It's just that I am a little tight on cash right now. That will all change in a couple of weeks but I don't feel like waiting that long. I have put it off long enough. Cik. Why do you recomend the Epox so badly? I am curiouis.. See. If I didn't start this thread...I would have been misslead. And yes, I do my homework man. I am only in the beginging stages of looking for one. That's why I asked for your guys's input. I am pretty sure I'll be gettin the MSI in about 2 or 3 days.
Why do I recommend the Epox or the Asus so badly??? Because they are the best Nforce2 boards on the market right now. They were designed for the power user in mind. Besides having high performance, they have every BIOS setting under the Sun which comes in very handy when fine tuning your system.
If your content with stock settings with no flexability, then go with the board you like the best. But if you want a board that gives you flexabilty when overclocking or fine tuning, then you can't go wrong with the Asus or Epox. Why do you think AccurateImage and myself acheive such high benchmarks? Because we use the best there is. |
bah hahaha I have owned all the nforce boards and by far the best overall was the the a7n8x delux revision 2.0 with the ultra 400 chipset, did 208fsb rock stable with no volt mods on the last pc I built and netted me a 20056 3d mark. The two worst boards I have used overall were both epox boards and one went back to fried and the other in my girls pc because it came from newegg. The msi rocks but do not expect to overclock it at all. Hell even my shuttle is now running at 194x2 fsb with no volt mods and I am getting the new ultra 400 shuttle that will be on shelves middle of this month that has full overclocking features. Not bad when I can score 18,127 with a toaster. should be able to hit 20,000+ with the new ultra 400. no matter what, make sure your board has the ultra 400 northbridge, the old version sucks a fatty and you have to v-mod it to do anything. the new chip is all black and no silver middle and it has a big ultra400 logo on it.
I would go with the Gigabyte GA-7NNXP nForce 2 Ultra400 chipset motherboard.
Check it out here-> http://tw.giga-byte.com/MotherBoard/...s_GA-7NNXP.htm |
looks like a good baord but have seen no improvments other than techie paper improvments over say an a7n8x delux which you can get for about $70 cheaper, almost enough to buy another week 306 barton haha :)
blah, you just didn't know how to set up the Epox AI. :P
tried for 2 weeks on both *LOL* must have received duds, but I use sata raid ect... the epox just does not have the goods for me, the asus is super cheap now and has loads of killer features.
I see that most of you are running the ATI card. My question is what brand of the card did you all buy? And if you had it to do over again would you all still buy the same card or go with a FX 5800 ultra or FX 5900 Ultra?
I run a 9800 and after seeing how far this baby overclocks I would stick with this card for the price I paid for it :)
tru dat
 |
Ok but what brand is your cards? Is it the ATI brand or from Asus, Hercules, or some other brand?
ATI OEM are always the best. They tend to OC higher than any other brand.
whatever you do DO NOT GET AN ECS!!!
if i wasnt going to use it for a server i would pour gasoline on it and lite it up....and take pics just for your viewing pleasure. :grimreaper: ....but i do have other old POS hardware that will never be used....hehehe >:) |
out of the sapphire oem and the boxed 9800 pro's my boxed version had about 10mhz faster ddr... but on the 9700 pro's the sapphire oem was a sick fast overclocker, the fic version was the worst overclocker.
Well I've made up my mind. I think this is the best deal for the money...well one of the best deals. I'm not looking for any overclocker's out there, just to clarify that all up. Kudo's to AI for finding me this deal. All that I need is the HS Adheasive.

Good board, will last a long time and do the job well :)
All props go to you my man
Did ya already get it..?
It'll be picked up tomorrow and we'll most likely have it in by tomorrow, unless it is anything like when i built my system, in which case it won't be in for another month  . I told MIK3 to go with the MSI too, since he isn't really going to be competing with CiKoTiC or accurateimage, and since he doesn't want the speed as much as the quality.
I had a 2200+ once. By far the worst AMD chip I ever owned. 8)
Good luck with yours! :wavey: |
what model did you have..? and he is not overclocking, I had a week 249 2200+ that I bought and tested before install >:) for a buddy and it did about the same as the week 48 2100+ I had. Was a .13 chip though, not .15
dunno, was right when they first came out.
ah that was a .15, those chips sucked a fatty when it came to overclocking hahaha!
Actually AI, we ended up finding an even better deal. I ended up buying the AMD XP 2400+ for 95. That's w/ a 3 yr warranty boxed (the thermal compound just didn't work for my standards, so I bought some Arctic Silver III). And then the mobo I went w/ the MSI K7N2...a dream. I love every bit of this combination. Give me more HD space and I'll be flying in no time. However, like vee_ess mentioned above...I'm not out there to compete w/ you guys by any means...haha, just in the lookout for a good quality motherboard that will last me a while. Glad I made the purchase. Now where did that "legal" copy of XP go? I mean...30 days...this is BS.
you DO know AS3 voids your warranty now, don't you?
yeah so friggin what hahaha :) I think everything I own has a voided warrenty for some reason, that is why I buy some stuff at fried electronics hehehe and all traces of as3 can be removed with goof off or similar products :)
Well ya'll I think I am going to head to Bestbuy tomorrow and grab a ATI 5800 Pro and slap that in with all the new hardware I got. I can't wait to see how everything runs and looks. This is the most upgrading I have ever done all at once and it is quite a jump over everything I have now. Now how much added preformance would I see if I did over clock stuff at his point? Just to tell u what I am running or going to be running.
Athlon XP 2700 (with a CoolMaster Aero 7 Heatsink on it.) Asus A7N8X Deluxe 512 Meg DDR Kingston 2.5cl ATI 5800 Pro 128meg I also had to pick up a new PowerSupply got a Antec 450watt. BTW I have never overclocked anything, mainly because I can't afford new parts should I screw it up, and I don't have the know how either. |
