Bypassing Content Filters
 

??? i tried pinging the aim express site.. it works at school but apparently the BESS in the library is "smarter". they even blocked the IP access.  :-/  i wanna know if there are any other way to lauch AIM(AOL instant messenger) on the library computer... im not sure if i download the AIM program on a disk and try to lauch in the library would work. i want some other ideas  ;D

If you have a home computer, you can set up WinVNC and remotely access your computer from any Java enabled browser. Then, just control your home computer from there, and use AIM from that computer. If you have a static IP just write that down, otherwise set up a dynamic dns account, and you can have a domain name point to your home computer (if you own a domain name you can use that, otherwise you can get something like someword.dyndns.org). It may be a little slow, but it should work (unless they block everything but port 80, or something).

yeah, i got websense and my school and it doesnt let you get by with anything, not even games, other that java applications.  im sure that there is a way of login into the main login, but that might be a lil risky.  :-/

well, is your school based on a a network login, a main network throughout the school to wear the students get there own login name or is it one huge name for all of students?

I go online at the library, and it's one main network. You login using your library card number and the last 4 digits of your phone number.

hehe thank god our college trusts us enough to leave most ports open. I can usually get icq2go working.

as for static/dynamic ip address schemes go. We have a dynamic ip on our dsl machine. I set the login software to activate a batch file I wrote that exports ipconfig to a file and uploads it to one of my web servers, so I can see my ip address the system later :D

Of course, it would probably be different on a cable machine using a cable -> ethernet type modem. I would guess put it in startup, but I'm not sure when the cable isp updates your ip address in the window login process :shrug:

Why not just try to set up a program to use when you want to surf the net without bess? I mean if you had a laptop and hooked it up to the t1/1000 lines at school you would be on the network. So all you would have to do is basically write a program! Its a great idea! Then you could sell millions of these little Anti-Bess Cd's at an underground CD shop.

:o i know how you can download AIM from the website then installing it. you just have to use http://pheeshi.com/aleks/access.php? then add in you url. it can take you any where except pictures dont always load quickly

if your school has any macs running os 9.2 (no matter how much of a user restriction) there is always a way to launch the browser. (if you have photoshop, say in the art department, then just click the "adobe online" button and it will launch it) from there, if you type in a url but then stop it before the message comes up saying access denied and then change your IP address. and press refresh it will load the page(works only once and then you have to change the ip again)

this will work most of the time unless they restricted the browser specifically. (usually not the case)

Good luck, and you can always try a proxy server.

Is Bess installed on each computer or is it a service rendered through a router?

i am at the public library in chandler,Arizona and there is this firewall called websense on it i cant play runescape. i have been trying for days now to get into to runescape or any other game sites but it wont let me. I have tried proxies but they wont let me play the game either anyway if anyone knows how to get around this please let me know :shake: :cry:

Well ti begin i went to altavista.com then i clicked translate i placed the site i wanted to goto in the bar. then i changed the lanuag e fto german to english .

when the proxy see the ip header it reads altavistas ip not aim so try it and have fun

bess at our school blocks everything... we can get to some game site... like... www.nitto1320.com and then we just open the .exe file... but me and about 7 other people are tryin to make a program that will get around bess, we hope to finish it soon, and make it availible for D/L... i dont know how long it will take tho... i hope to finish soon... :)

Well I guess it is nice to see a group of people dedicated to doing what ive been trying. Beat the beast that is this "Bess" (websense) Im behind the mother of em the military contracted firewall life sux enuf already as it is (im in iraq yes i want to kill president bush) but i cant even fucking use the internet except to check email phuq that i need My IM client hell ill settle for anything right now. If you know anything that gets past Bess right now hook me up with the info.

yeah uhhh i just tired those websites and bess blocked them because of message boards and free pages AND loopholes >:O!!!

I have that same problem at work. They blocked anything that says like mp3 even exe files. I wanted to go to a site that had free legal mp3s and I couldn't get in. I just despise them. There are many sites, that are legimate, but are blocked by bess. I have tried many ways to get around it, but it still is there.

Here's how to get past BESS
 

So, you ladies tired of seeing that anoying picture of Bess pop-up after you enter your site? Well, I was the same way. Sitting in class for hours thinking about how I could come up with a way to get past Bess. And... it finally hit me. Here's what you do.

First: Open explorer and type in http://babelfish.altavista.com/

Next: Scroll down to where it says "Translate a Web Page". From there simply type in the site you are trying to go to (ex. www.mtv.com).

FINALLY: This is the most important step. Right underneath where you type in the URL of the site you're trying to visit, you have to change the language from whatever it's set at (I think it's English to Spanish) to Korean to English.

Then hit enter, and be on your way.

This works on MOST not ALL web sites. Try not getting caught doing this or telling alot of people like I went and made the mistake of doing. Because soon your administrator will get wind and block http://www.altavista.com.

In that case just search Yahoo for another "free online translators" or go to www.worldlingo.com.

Well I hope I helped some you out. Right now I'm working on how to download AIM through Bess. if anybody has any tips on what to do please email them to me if possible at onezero00@yahoo.com.
