StinkyMojo 01-29-2004 10:26 AM

Whats specificly wrong?

Jason425 01-29-2004 07:52 PM

if i knew i'd fix it.. ok i go to the domain.. some letters and numbers.onlinehome.us and it says "this has been registered by one of our customers blah blah.. there's a step i'm missing obviously

StinkyMojo 01-29-2004 11:18 PM

heh.. if not more than one step, so they actually give out free subdomains?

Jason425 01-30-2004 01:05 AM

well so does geocities and tripod etc..

StinkyMojo 01-30-2004 10:26 AM

ya but those are a joke... ftp use for those suck as well as storage space

vee_ess 01-31-2004 10:08 PM

There's tons of good free hosting services that let you use subdomains. I go here to find what I need when I need some space for a specific purpose.

xMerCLorDx 02-01-2004 07:38 PM

ok i don't know what happened to my reply, i had something typed a while ago in reply but never posted i guess :O

first geocities and tripod don't have subdomains for your use.
also

"some letters and numbers.onlinehome.us and it says "this has been registered by one of our customers blah blah.. there's a step i'm missing obviously"

you're only missing the part where you upload your html to replace their default one that is placeholding for you.

most registrars give out free subdomains, this one gives you 50. the reason they only allow 50 instead of unlimited is probably because of DNS limits of their nameservers that they own. whereas with a bigger registrar would probably give you as many as you want, and some hosting gives you it too.

anyway. if you got that site that you explained, just replace your site's html with it.

demetriuscrisco 10-08-2004 09:23 PM

Is this not free anymore?

Jason425 10-08-2004 09:32 PM

i dunno.. didn't work anyway..

vee_ess 10-09-2004 12:57 AM

It hasn't been working for a while. If you want very cheap hosting, however, try SiteFlip.com; they have $.99 hosting, and it's not bad either.

Jason425 10-09-2004 01:07 AM

booya for geocities!

demetriuscrisco 10-10-2004 12:34 PM

Ye abut FREE is alot better tyhen 99 cents... and if any one has a 1&1 acct they dont need, I really need it. really bad. I have planned to do somthing with it.. PLZ

Aemon_ 11-18-2004 02:48 PM

i know this is a month old, and i shall beaten with a week old pizza crust till i cry for mercy for responding to such an old post... but...

demetriuscrisco, do you have a high speed connection and an old machine sittin around? you could load a flavor of linux on that bad boy and you'd have free hosting. just buy your domain name and point it at your server.

later

vee_ess 12-06-2004 07:07 PM

Keep in mind that some ISPs prohibit hosting. Check with your ISP to be sure.
