That is really sweet.  I suggest that someone tries that out and sees how it goes.  I would be interested in buy some of those if someone was willing to make some.

Keep me posted!

I'll be adding that to my things to do list.

yeah the bearing version seems much better, but i didn't look at his instructions. to me it seems all you have to do is put an electrode for one current and use the bearing for the other one. now for the voltage conversions...

Re: Anyone ever done this?

There is an easier way to do this and it looks a lot better too ill post in a bit.

Re: Anyone ever done this?

Kick ass, SO much effort, VERY impressive, all the colors, dude.
one question - what's for ?? how exactly anybody would see this fan from the back side of box ?
case modding is great hobby, but why to stick the damn box in front of your eyes so it would make you headache with all the colors, graffiti and lightings
for me, as long as it's in the size of standard ATX case its place under the desk, but who needs modding then ?

Cheers
Chef

Re: Anyone ever done this?

I have seen the same thing done only with pieces of fiber optic ran into the fan blades, then running to the base of the propellor.  Then LED's were ran to a 1/8" away from the Fiber optics.  Same effect, but its a pain gettin your hands on fiber optics.  Just thought I would note it...

How about lets not spam these boards. - NetSmog Mod

Re: Anyone ever done this?

Yeah $50.00 IS too much, however I am a single 43 year old kid with no responsibilities to speak of, and have more money than soldering abilities.  I also felt that at that price, you would not see many of these out there.  While I'm right so far, there are others that look cool, do essentially the same thing, and do not have that framwork underneath.  Only one thumb up on this one.

one thumb up hey...yeah anyone that wants to mod anything should put thought into what they are doing.  Money is and obviously big issue, but hey, if u got the $$$, you can do anything!

It almosts looks like the picture above is your CPU fan.  Do advise?  Also the colors are seperated, was the camera framerate really set fast, or does it always look like that.

MIK3 05-31-2002 03:00 PM

Re: Anyone ever done this?

Yes the picture above does seem to have 3 colors to it.  If it were up to me, i would take the second one not because it is cheaper, but it overall just looks better and has a nice kinda visual ring to it if you know what im talkin about  :)

It is mounted in my window directly above my CPU fan.  The lighted areas are quite distinct, and it does look very much like the photo in real life.  I did a review on it at: http://www.rivergodsmods.com/AntecTr...FanReview.html

Re: Anyone ever done this?

Yeah, there's one available here for $49.99. It's only available in red, and it's fairly expensive, but if you're really into nifty looks, and not at all into modding, there you go.

rivergod 05-31-2002 09:31 PM

Re: Anyone ever done this?

Thats the exact fan I have. you can just see the framework that holds the LEDs.  That makes it difficult to mount where you won't see it.  You can change the led colors though.  Cool, but not worth the price, the Antec Trilite Fan is a better deal.

vee_ess 06-24-2002 12:35 AM

Re: Anyone ever done this?

Yeah, I saw dual fans with LED's for $7.99 and the plastic was all clear with special effects in it to enhance the light. Been looking for it since. That is a remarkable deal, even for a modder.

Re: Anyone ever done this?

NO WAY!!! sweet deal...r u sure that u cant find that deal...man that sux big time...my god that is a sweet deal..i know that i would buy that in a heartbeat! lol! I need some LED's to spice up my PC, other than my opt. mouse!

Re: Anyone ever done this?

I tried one of those too.  It has a much more subtle effect than the tri-light or other lighted case fans.  The LEDs are around the hub, and do not light the blades as much.  Still it looks great when you want a subtle lighting effect.

Slammer 10-01-2002 09:37 AM

Great Mod!!!

Raven 10-01-2002 11:09 AM

Re: Anyone ever done this?

Yah I have two of those fans too, the ones with the lights in the hub... there not as impressive as the tri-light's but it all depends on what you want in the mod.

Here's a link to bit-tech where they show how to make the fiber-optic ones... it's a lot more complicated, thought.

http://www.bit-tech.net/article/80/

I think the first example is easier to do... hmmm been added to the list.

eviltechie 10-01-2002 06:17 PM

this mod isnt a good one in my opinion

because it could disbalance the rotor and making the bearings' life time shorter and even create high pitch noises

and it would spin slower too due to the heavier weight

Antec's Tri Lights fans are great
3 colours
good enuf
