Treo 600 Unlocking!

Ever since I bought my first Treo 600 I set out to find how to unlock it. Unforunetly, I never solved the problem for myself. A few fellas from Treocentral.com, however, did solve the problem.

Here are the instructions on how to fully unlock any Treo 600:

Unlocking is actually quite simple:

Part One:

1. Download and install Card Export. NOTE: The Card Export shareware install file is attached to this post.

2. Make sure you can see the Treo's SD card as a logical drive on the machine the Treo is connected to.

3. Dowload the flash, patched.zip, here.

Part Two:

1. Unzip all the files and copy them to the /PALM/LAUNCHER folder on your SD card.

2. Hard reset the Treo.

3. Navigate to the card using the standard application launcher and run FirmwareUpdater.prc.

4. Click OK, click the Update Now button (I may have forgotten one or two OK clicks here so don't hesitate to correct me here).

5. Sit back and relax, it's going to take a good 10 minutes.

6. The phone will automatically hard reset at the end of the process.

That's all, really. Note that I think it does do the entire 2.09 firmware upgrade, so all this should even work when you're on an older firmware version. I recommend you do the regular upgrade first though.

Good luck!

Keefe,

thanks for the instructions. The firmware upgrade seems to have work perfectly; at least as far as upgrading the firmware. Now here comes the stupid question: is there a deffinitive method for checking if the Treo is unlocked without inserting another SIM card?

I don't really have any plans to use it over-seas or with another provider; I just hate purchasing something and not having FULL use of it.

Cheers

likely reason:
files in wrong folder on SD/MMC card? It must be "//Palm/Launcher" (upper/lower case doesn't matter).

The card should be shown as last item in the categories dropdown in the app launcher

Need to check if my treo 600 is unlocked.

is there any way to check to see if my treo 600 is unlocked on the phone somewhere?

Keefe 02-17-2004 04:21 AM

I'm not sure on this phone...

bicha1 02-17-2004 08:35 PM

It works

I installed the SIM card from a friend who owns a cingular card and it worked like a charm. I have ATT service.

treo 600 unlocking

Hi! Just bought a Treo 600 in London which is locked to Orange UK, which i desperately need to unlock. Have downloaded the patch software, the firmware update versions 2.08 and 2.09, the card export software etc. I think have all i need to be able to unlock my phone as well as upgrade the firmware... Anyways, the problem is - the softick card export software, when installed into my Treo 600 is recognised as 'dirty', and the instrument won't allow me to operate the application... Is there anyother version that works??

Also, other than unlocking the phone, what are the other benefits of installing the update versions... currently, under phone\menu\options\phone info on my Treo the Firmware field is blank, the software field says Treo600-1.0-OUK and the Hardware field says B...

Please help...

idyllic 02-19-2004 06:38 PM

nishant880,

I read somewhere that the firmware update is suppoded to fix/enable the use a hands-free car kit which is avaiable from Handspring. Now as far as I know, the "patched" firmware upgrade was designed to remove the lock specifically, but may in fact also fix issues with the car kit. I can niether confirm nor deny this as I have a soft-top on the Jeep and it's way too noisy to use anything but a headset.

Cheers

jeez keefe you've got quite a little business going selling those treo 600's.. wouldn't think you'd be allowed to sell unlocked stuff.. well nm i did that with my video card once.. oh well anyway.. i just seached google for keefe007 and ran across you in all these forums asking about it then all the ebay auctions

:) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :)

Thanks a Zillion!
It works absolutely fine.

I just bought the phone from the local Orange dealer (he particularily specified it was protected) and without even having to insert an Orange sim card I was able to follow your instructions and succed to connect to my usual provider SWISSCOM in Geneva Switzerland.

I just hope people stop spending money on scam companies who sell you hot air

All the best!

works real nice!

i had two treo 600's for my partner and i from orange u.k. and wanted to use them in jamaica where we now work but didn't want to pay orange's exorbitant roaming charges even though we're paying a contract in the u.k.

now they work fine on jamaica's digicel chips 8)

just one glitch though and maybe someone knows how to fix:

when i switch wireless mode on it doesn't connect to digicel straightaway and tells me it can't find the network. i then go to 'select network' it does a search and finds an alternative carrier but not digicel. i then select the 900/1800 band and then eventually it finds digicel and works.

this whole process takes a few minutes everytime i switch the phone on.

anyone know of a way to make the phone default to digicel straightaway?

also...

a number '1' appears next to the aerial reception icon.

anyone know what this is? is it meaning 'line 1' or something?

that's it!

thanks to all those that made it possible and 'up yours' orange for being twats.

:)

Treo 600 Unlocking

Thanks

I successfully unlocked my Treo following your instructions without any problems; however, I have a couple of different SIM cards and it works with the one without a pin number but not with the one with a pin number. It won't accept the pin number and I know it's the right number. Anybody any ideas why that is?

legli 03-06-2004 04:41 AM

Pin code malfuction

Now that you talk about it!

Idid also have a problem with my pin code. To resolve the problem I had to enter the PUK code and the pin was then reseted to 1111.

Unock Delete Files

The unlocking worked like a charm on my T_Mobile Treo 600. Thank you. After the unlocking is complete are there any of the files that can be deleted?

Hi all,
I just unlocked the Orange Treo 600 flashing the 2.09 FW as described. The phone works with my provider's SIM (Mobitel, Slovenia), but I discovered a big BUG: when I call someone and press the hangup button (either with 5way navigation button or touchscreen), Treo says "hanging up", but the ring tone is still there and the other phone still rings for about 60 seconds! And the phone hangs during that time - no control works (except reset of corse).
It is simply impossible to hangup the unanswered call. What's even funnier: if the other party does answer during that time, the call IS disconnected (is it should be right away). The ongoing call on the other hand, can be hanged up without problems. I guess this is just some SW issue?

My Phone Info is:
FW: 02.09
SW: Treo600-1.0-OUK
HW: A

Also, I have no problems using PIN (like somebody had) - I can enter the PIN and phone works OK.

Another thing: is there a way to get rid of the Orange software? I noticed some people's SW version is INT - guess this stands for International.

Re: Treo 600 Unlocking!

Hello

It almost worked. If I start to update, step4 of part 2, then it just installs one file (needs maybe 20 seconds), then does a soft reset (or similar) and then updates ends. Help!

Reto

whoknows 03-12-2004 05:40 PM

1. Call Hangup bug. This happens if you used patched.zip without upgrading to INT 208/209 first. It's a conflict with the UK SW. If you still have the UK apps/branding, this hasn't worked. 208 is supposed to be more stable.

2. How to get rid of UK apps - see above.

3. Update finishes after 10 secs - files in wrong place or corrupt - did you unzip all files into PALM\Launcher? Both upgrades should take 10 mins +.

There are some dud files about. For locations try searching treocentral forums for "firmware downgrade"

Note that doing any the above invalidates your warranty, and is entirely at your own risk.

Reto_G 03-18-2004 09:05 AM

1) on hangup bug, the solution worked
3) on subject update ends after 10 seconds, it was (a) corrupted file(s). Softick / cardexport 1.13 does not properly work with my w2k. Also not with some others w2k as can be seen from other forums. The new version 1.14 (available at www.softick.com) works better (does not hangup itself sometimes until w2k is rebooted) but did also not work correct every time I used it. Seems to be a question of amount of transferred data. Sometimes, everything seems to be ok, but data are corrupted. Attention: watch display on Treo until transfer ends, because on pc screen, long files seem to be transferred long time before they really are. I then used the freeware TestPath v1.3 to compare files (after disconnecting and reconnecting the Treo - buffer!). I then deleted incorrect files (usually firmware patch because of its size) and transferred util ok.
After this procedure, all updates, unlocks worked perfectly. I hope this helps other to minimize freewheeling.

What do I do if I don't have an expansion card?

I don't have an expansion card in my Treo 600.

Can this method still work if I downloaded the components of patched.zip to the phone's memory instead of a SD card? (I do have enough memory to download them all)

g1nzo 03-22-2004 07:08 PM

i get as far as copying the files to the SD card

how do i find the files on the treo to do this part
Navigate to the card using the standard application launcher and run FirmwareUpdater.prc.

From the main applications screen, you need to pulldown where it says "All" (or Main, Utilities, etc) and select you SD card. From there you will be able to access the Firmware updater.

I just confirmed that it was unlocked by going to a T-Mobile store and asking to use one of their SIMs. The call went through fine. Took a few hits to hang up though. Is the hang up problem associated with US Treo's as well as UK ones? How do I run/find the 208 firmware?

legli 03-31-2004 08:26 AM

I am still stuck with the call hangup bug. Does anyone know where to look for this INT 208/209 firmware upgrade?

"I am still stuck with the call hangup bug. Does anyone know where to look for this INT 208/209 firmware upgrade?"

i have the same problem - after i unlocked my orange uk phone following the directions on this thread, the phone works fine but i still have all the orange crap. if i understand things correctly, i need to do the INT 208/209 FW upgrade BEFORE running the patched.zip - is that correct? and WHERE can i get the INT 208/209 upgrade?!?!

I've just used the rules to unlock my Treo 600 from Orange. It works perfectly now in Spain using Movistar or Vodafone networks. Just to say thank you to who placed the instructions.

should i update to 2.08/2.09 INT? and if so, where can i get this? i noticed that you said you fixed the hang-up bug so i'd love to know what i can do.

or should i update to FW 2.12 SW 1.12? i've tried to follow the Method D instructions from the treofaq page (if you know what i'm talking about) and i get zlib error messages during the process - probably because i already have updated to patched.zip 2.09.

please advise (anybody!)

thanks.

My Treo came with firmware 1.11, so going down to 1.09 does not seem like a good idea. Any comment?

Call hang up bug on unlocked treo 600

Hi everyone,

I also have this problem on my treo (Orange unlocked, 02.09, 1.0-OUK, B) and I am not sure what I have to do to get rid of it. I would REALLY appreciate if someone that has successfully get rid of the problem, posted some instructions on this. What do I have to download? Where do I get it? What is the procedure step-by-step?

Thanks in advance:)

Step-by-step guide, if anyone can.

I've successfully unlocked, though. :)

Thanks

Hallelujah!!!!

After spending about 12 hrs trying different things out, it finally worked! Not every device is exactly the same in terms of s/w, h/w and f/w, but for me Method C (supplied by vulcan) on treo f/w faq (URL is http://coljac.net/treo_firmware_faq.html) worked. It didn't work at first and I had to tinker with it a bit, but at last it worked.

If anyone who has this problem wants to talk about it, send an email to acg at imagine dot gr and I'll try to help.

A bit of help needed. I've run the update to the firm ware, but I cannot access a network now. I have a new Treo 600 from Orange in Switzerland.

Here is what the Phone Info says:

Any help appreciated.

What version of the OS and Firmware do I end up with after doing this. I am on Rogers ATT in Canada and wanted to know if I can still download the updates from the PalmONE website after doing this firmware update. Also, they say version 1.12 on their site. What does that mean -- how is this different then 2.08 or 2.09 or whatever it is. Someone please clarify.

NEW TREO UNLOCKING ISSUE

Hi,
Just got my new Treo today and tried the unlock routine with no avail. I am running on firmware v 03.05. I can see the some directories on my phone from my PC but can't write files to any of them.
Have phoned my service provider and they say it will cost me £20 to get unlock code, Someone tell me if I'm being a cheap-skate, but was hoping to do it for free.
Any help or advice is welcome even if it is to get my money out my pocket

Never seen that problem. That's most likely a problem on your carrier's side.
