Higher education in computers in general
Hello all,
I would like to learn more about networking, hacking and basicaly anything there is to know about computers, I dont consider myself a nub with computers at all :) I type 123 words a minute play anywhere from 4 to 7 hours a day and know wat im doing fairly well, but I want to be able to consider myself as someone who is an expert at them. I want to be able to read one of those posts from a techie talking about mobos and truely understand it and see why that would or wouldnt work (I know the basics of video cards, cases etc etc but not to much). I want to be able to write websites, hack into complex security and just learn as much as possible. Next year I am taking C++ and Computer Graphics and im teaching myself HTML, next year is my sophmore year if you wondering. I dont seek knowlege to be malicious or an idiot and fuck other peoples computers for my own enjoyment... its more of the learning experience and wanting to know how the code and computer works. Ive gone to countless website fourms etc and seen all these 10 or 11 year old kids asking OMG ur a hack3r!? t34cH m3! Its not like that at all, if i do eventualy learn to be fairly good at hacking id like to be white-hat :0 work for the government or be hired to hack into peoples companys and tell them the flaws. Any helps or a starting point is appriciated for any of the topics I said i was interested in.... HTML seems fairly easy and more of memirazation than anything else thats what im currently working on.... but a link to a good walkthrough or a few websites for those topics would be cool :).... or if u write on here thatd be even better... All help appriciated, you can post here or IM me at wmsrm59, e-mail at wmsrm59@entouch.net or catch me on irc.gamesurge.net #projectx name will be |WUTANG| Rgr :) |
Being able to play computer games doesnt make you a hacker
Being able to know what a Mother Board isnt making you a hacker Just ask on forums to learn things we talk about them all the time here. Just google search for topics and search the forums for your questions Some good hacking sites in general are www.astalavista.box.sk www.astalavista.net (paid forum but very good for hacking specific items) |
The best advice I have for you so that you can actually learn is to go to Web Monkey because they are about the best source I have come across for programming, web dev, and basically understanding the software side of computers that I have come across. If you need or want any help from me on anything, feel free to IM me on AIM if I'm on.

well the first thing you need to know is that with what you're asking, you're going to have to read...
a.. fucking.. TON.. i suggest you forget about hacking and get a good base of knowledge. if you're honestly serious you will put these dreams of being a hacker on the backburner and figure out how to do things on your own. first things first. learn how a computer works, go to a library or book store and read (and comprehend) an A+ book from cover to cover. then get an html book and read that in the same fashion. after or during the reading of each book, try to get some hands on experience with whatever the book is talking about. continue doing this and if you find more interest in one subject, go that direction. repeat. repeat. next book. repeat. next book. seriously you're going to be doing this for a while. repeat. next book. and on and on until you get some certs. please don't even think about hacking, it's highly hollywoodized and nearly all who are into computers for this reason are retards. don't be a retard, go pick up a book and learn how to do something. as for the white hat hacker for the government, i'm pretty sure there are security professionals that are more intense and credible than any white hat. |
*pwns because he isn't a hacker*
|
*pwns more because he is*

I was thinking, and I want to make guides for people to learn about computers without having to know anything going in. Maybe we could work together, so you can tell me what would work by reading my guides as I write them. I may not know much about computers, but what I do know I'd like to be able to share, so with a little luck maybe Keefe would fill the guides section up with them.
|
cool, i wanna read - get crackin' :D
|
Sweet. LOL
You know a lot, you could help me if you want. What to do first, though? I'm thinking the basics of a computer such as just defining what major components are, their role, and how they can affect the use of a computer. |
err thanks, i don't know that much, i'm just a mega nerd!
i think you should start on random guides with screenshots and nice steps. basics of computers works topic wise. |
LOL. I'll get started in the morning then!
|
Thanx for help ill check those out... just got done with finals so ill get some books and shit and check those websites out.... :)
|
Check back here regularly, I'll post any guides I get done.
|
maybe i'll do some guides too :D

im like leet nerd... byt the way.. cool idea you guys.. if it becomes a serious project ill help out.. im getting my A+ ccna mcse and some other certs this coming school year - course is also supposed to be big on internet security. |
saying you're getting certs is bullshit. get the certs and then say you have them.
"i'm going for my ccie, cissp, and mcsa security certs" man who cares. |
Lol, I can already tell you won't be anything your writing about. Anyone I know who ever was successful on this thing never asked such a broad question on a forum. Go to your bookstore, read a book. Experiment, dont say next year your going to teach yourself this and that. It wont happen, I used to always say that shit. Download different OS's (operating systems) check them out. Everything I learned came from doing.
hey everyone, been awhile since ive posted up in this joint. h0wdy! |
Books are so bloated just so they can be larger than 150 pages; about 3 pages of useful information in there. Also, the way I am trying to do these guides are from an experimental point of view so that people can learn how to learn, but be guided in the best places to do so, and why the stuff they see works the way it does.

i wanna help out
|
the fucks up your ass? i wouldnt say it if i wasnt gonna get em.
|
I'm totally lost with your statement Dragon...
|
chill out son, i'm just saying things don't go always as planned. plus the tone of my post was probably thrown of by my casual use of 'bullshit'. i use it all too often and i'm sure it sounded harsher than i was intending.
so anyway i said i was gonna get my ccna after taking the class, but i didn't because i wanted to wait for the new version to come out. you don't know if you're going to get them, you have to pass a test, it doesn't mean you will pass the test. but you want to. this doesn't mean that you already have the cert because you say you're going to get it. so i can say i'm the next president. does it matter? no because i'm not the next president. all i'm saying is that you don't have them now, get them and then brag! |
LOL HACKERS ARE BORN. But your efforts are noble. Read as much as you can, theres so much out there. In order to be recognized as a legit h4cker, not a script kiddie you need to release as much open source as you can(YOUR OWN), understand the true purpose of hacking, outside the media gliss. IM a sophmore and I just got my CISE, I would love to help you guys out, I think its an awsome idea
|
I can cover whatever is thrown at me, I have HUGE library of *security* ;) , screenshots, lemme know if you need any.
|
haha awesome... I think there's been a hold on it lately though, unofficially. Time has been so constricting. Let's get started on them (guides) though. It's as good a time on any... What topic to attack first?
|
well hey, I think we should cover basic FTP attacks, like pw file retrieval and shit like that. Seams to be the easiest for beginners to grasp. By the way did you want to cover "security" or basic Computing concepts?
yeah like I said ftp and telnet nodes are basically the first step. But eventually complex penetration and remote code injection should be included this should target the security proffesional such as system admins or wannabe auditers ;) |
Well, personally, I am hoping that a full series can be there for the entire system, not solely for any specific aspect like security.
I'm thinking what about something more practical and easier, like say a web programming mini-series. |
how about PROTECTING an ftp server... I don't want people attacking me! ;)
|
Protecting an ftp server is pretty difficult as ftp security is inherently insecure. Try using ssl or ssh ftp.
|
got that right. mines def not goin up again.
codecrazy with a retrieval and a double post all in one! nice! hope pro dont see it! |
Are there any other more secure protocols LIKE ftp?
|
SSH and SSH2.
|
isnt the Sftp i thought i read that somewhere.
