IBM Is Slowly But Surely Coming To Power
Check out this review on their new Unix server coming out...pretty sweet
IBM plans July launch of Power5 Unix server |
growing is good
64 processors sever is awesome!!! anyone want one?? lol |
how about the IBM Rochester? 8192 processors. fourth fastest supercomputer.
or the NEC earth simulator in japan? 5120 processors, fastest public supercomputer in the world. ibm isn't slowly coming to power. they've been around for a while, and they've been on top. but that power5 server is looking cool. |
as far as I'M concerned IBM is a bunch of noobs until they take down Intel and AMD...
|
except they aren't in that market... just like intel and amd don't make supercomputer processors. oh shit :o
|
well then they had better get in that market..
|
why do they want to get into that market?
they are SI, and thats that they do best |
IBM has taken over all parallel markets, so I wouldn't be surprised if they enter the X86 market.

SI stands for System Integration
thats the technical name for the type of business they do |

umm, well, IBM is a very strong company, and also very weak. For example, their corporate business is pretty freaking strong (aka SI). However, they DO make PC's (hello: PPC aka G5). They aren't going to enter the x86 market, b/c they already have their own architecture line that is successful for them. It looks like IBM will also be making the processors for all the new game consoles by the major players, building off the PPC architecture (though I think the Cell chip will be fairly different). So, yes IBM is strong, it seems to be growing, but it doesn't make itself, and i don't think it wants to, an upfront consumer competitor. They are the behind the scenes guys that the world relies on, kinda.
