Whats under the hood of your box? Doom 3 HL2 ready or not?

Whats under the hood of your box? Are you Doom 3 HL2 ready or not?

The facts are below:

Half Life 2:

Apparently a 700mhz processor and a video card capable of running DX6 is enough, although a 2ghz with a GeForce4 is recommended. Rumors about NVidia or ATI exclusivity are unfounded.

Doom 3:

System Requirements - Recommended by PC Gamer:
2GHz CPU
512 MB Ram
Radeon 9800
5-Channel Audio

Supported Graphics Cards:
Ge-Force 4 MX
Ge-Force 3
Ge-Force 4 Titanium
Ge-Force FX (and higher)
ATI 8500, 9000 (and higher)

Looks like everyones belief that Doom 3 will be the more graphic beast could very well be true. Judging from what I saw in the "demo" I very much doubt that a G3 will do the job in a playable fashion, and even more so a G4MX, only time will tell.

Post what you have and what you think of these upcoming games.

My main rig:

AMD 64 3800+ 939
Asus A8V
1GB Corsair XMS PC3200LL
Radeon 9800 Pro 256MB

My Backup Rig:

AMD64 3000+ 754
Albatron K8x800Pro II
1GB Crucial PC3200
PNY Geforce 4 Ti4600 128mb

I should be able to run the game on both, but with what success?

StinkyMojo 07-16-2004 05:49 PM

i think my main rig below should handle both games in Medium settings.. maybe even high depending on how optimized the games' engines are to different comps. Jason, defanatly your top rig should be able to run both games on high, your backup is actually a pretty good comp, but I think prob around meduim settings for both games.

gnogtr 07-17-2004 12:10 AM

I think I should be able to run both on high settings, especially with my nice overclock....

Jason425 07-18-2004 12:37 AM

I will defiantly run them at the highest settings, with AA/AF all the way up! 5 fps is no match for my sapphire 9500!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

:firedevil:

Uranium-235 07-18-2004 12:53 AM

HL2, I'm just fine. Doom 3, I'm screwed

vee_ess 07-19-2004 09:46 PM

Bleh
I'm on a 1.0GHz and I'll still run it, and I'm betting without any hitches...

gibant1 07-23-2004 07:44 AM

I've put this together in the last month, if this doesn't run it all on max, I'm buying a Game Cube & start playing 'cute' games. :)

Jason425 07-24-2004 12:55 AM

going intel is a good start.. you have to try to ruin them.. and i'm not going to test that theory either..

CiKoTiC 08-03-2004 07:40 PM

I'm playing Doom3 on a AMD 2800, ATI 9800pro, 1GB RAM and it runs fine. 1024x768 and detail set to high.

Jason425 08-03-2004 11:32 PM

Jason 08-06-2004 10:56 AM

It should at least run on the laptop, but I wouldnt expect to see framerates that are above 30.

Cannon 08-08-2004 11:26 PM

I hope doom 3 is as good as it is cracked up to be

StinkyMojo 08-08-2004 11:38 PM

Oh it is bud.. Amazing singleplayer.. mediocre multi. you'd love it.

Jason425 08-09-2004 01:04 AM

i'd like to play it but noone will let me bororow it (what a suprise) .. so.. i guess i'm going to have to wait..

StinkyMojo 08-09-2004 09:23 AM

I would have, but you cant burn it cause it detects your virtual drive just like far cray and ut2k4.. i would show you a screenshot but I dont want to go through that trouble of it locking me out of the game.. The only way back in is deleting the regestry keys.

Jason425 08-09-2004 11:17 AM

*knows that the doom3 copy protection can be beaten and wants a shot at it* ;)

StinkyMojo 08-10-2004 09:33 AM

If Mojo can't pirate it, no one can pirate it..

Prometheus 08-13-2004 06:01 AM

oh yeah
1x60 gig hd
1x189 gb hd

I have no idea which raid. I suppose i should memorize them. Especially before my A+ test

Jason425 08-13-2004 01:14 PM

*has A+ ;) *

it was harder than i thought it would be...

raid 0 is fast
raid 1 is mirror

raid 0+1 is both..

all you need to know for A+ I think.. (pretty much all i know too..)

Prometheus 08-13-2004 01:29 PM

how do I set up raid 0

Jason425 08-13-2004 01:36 PM

i'm still trying to get it done.. I got the array set up in the mobo's raid utility thing (when it's like press tab to enter raid utility) or whatever.. now I just need the win xp install to recognize it.. i've got some drivers I think and i'm gonna try it when I get home..
