hey un ... what kind of battery life do you get with that thing? Also, how is the wireless working for you?
oh.. and how much does it weigh?

U.N.inspector 08-20-2004 11:39 AM

Battery Life = 2 hours if on MAX setting w/ full brightness and all.
@.5 to 3 hrs if you use speedstep.

Wireless is GREAT! I never thought it be as good as PCMCIA cards but the distance is very very good for it being internal..

Weight - under 6lbs

can you get an updated pic? and how do you ship? it's $1100 shipped right? Paypal?

Prometheus 08-20-2004 12:49 PM

UN jason is allowed to question the product to make sure he gets his money's worth

Jason425 08-20-2004 01:13 PM

pretty much....

U.N.inspector 08-20-2004 01:30 PM

No problem...
Now back to the Thread.

For the members that are interested in the laptop,
I'll also add:

A laptop video card heatsink. With (2) New tubes of Artic Silver Thermal CPU paste.

The copper plate is if you intend to upgrade or replace the cheap factory foam pads with high quality copper heatsinks. Providing excellent cooling for the video card. It can be used on the FX5200 , 4200Go, Radeon 9000 & 9600, and Nvidia Quadro Series.

I'll included intructions on modding your video card.

answering those questions would be nice too.. ;)

U.N.inspector 08-20-2004 02:20 PM

Okay Jason.....
Apologies on seeming Up-tight.....

For the $1,100 I would include USPS Pririoty shipping with insurance for the over $1000. Unless you prefer a different shipping method, I'll abide by the buyers choice.

Updated pic....
You will have to give me 24hrs on. I have a crappy $19.99 Digital camera w/ no flash and if I'm to take a good pic...i'll have to borrow my friend's 3 MP digital camera.

cool I can wait on the pic.. i'd prefer UPS ground.. hopefully that isn't too much of a problem (they have tracking and stuff..) and it shouldn't cost too much more than usps w/ insurance.. pretty sure ups comes with insurance anyway..

U.N.inspector 08-20-2004 03:27 PM

No Problem....UPS would be no problem.
I'll POST the pic tomm after noon and PM you to let you know...

Jason425 08-21-2004 03:43 PM

just curious.. why are you selling it?

U.N.inspector 08-21-2004 03:50 PM

I'm selling it because I would like to get into a 17" Widescreen Laptop.
That pretty much says it all.

U.N.inspector

Jason425 08-21-2004 04:15 PM

you say 3 hours with speedstep... how does speedstep test?

U.N.inspector 08-21-2004 04:27 PM

Don't under stand what u mean.
All I do is:

With BIOS defaults set on power saving mode and the installation of the speedstep program in windows XP. The P4 processor drops to 1.5ghz or so when on battery, I lower the brightness of the screen and it goes for 2+hours. I have not sat next to it with a stop clock but I've come home and sat on the couch for 2.5hrs (3PM-5:30PM) on the lappy after a long work day....

A second battery module is available on ebay if you need 5 hours....fit on 2nd module bay so you'll have 2 batteries.

Regards,
U.N.inspector

Jason425 08-21-2004 05:17 PM

with general net and document use, how much do you usually get on a full charge?

U.N.inspector 08-21-2004 05:23 PM

Jason...
just short of 3hrs would be about the max. I don't think this battery even "new" could go on longer than 3hrs with the Pentium 4-M onboard.
Ergo the now, new Dell 8600 Centrino line which can hit 4-5hrs on one battery.

U.N.inspector

Jason425 08-21-2004 09:12 PM

he isn't talking about the 8600.. he's selling an 8500 on the old centrino....

U.N.inspector 08-21-2004 09:28 PM

Correct Jason, thank u...anyhow's...
I'm here. I have a few offers but nothing solid.

So the lappy is still available......

BumP...

Jason425 08-21-2004 10:28 PM

i'm considering it.. My main concern is battery life... i'm still trying to figure out how much I need and how much it's worth to me..

no REALLY!!?! lol i know that

U.N.inspector 08-22-2004 03:29 AM

No Problem..Jason,
You know..you have the option to use the 30GB instead of the 80GB
and I would lower the price about $150

U.N.inspector

U.N.inspector 08-22-2004 09:28 AM

Jason425 08-22-2004 10:09 AM

why don't you install it for us?

U.N.inspector 08-22-2004 10:15 AM

Heatsinks are hard to come by...due to it's milling at a machine shop.
I Figured it is only deserving of a 128MB video card....
not the FX5200

Regards,
U.N.inspector

Jason425 08-22-2004 11:14 PM

I don't know of any 128 mb cards for notebooks.. even the 9700 is 64... irreguardless this won't be for much gamings, so I might just put it on there..

and is there any G compatibility with that or is it only b?

There are a LOT of 128mb laptops gpus.. lol.. theres even a 9600 that has 128..

Jason425 08-23-2004 10:02 AM

exactly..
the only laptop gpus that i know of that i know perform well in benchmarks is 9600 pro and 9700 pro (and of course the 9800 pro, thats thats way too much $$). If they are not pros they really suffer in gaming for laptops. 5700 ultra gpu is also really fast.. but then again these are pricey upgrade options. Your choice.

Jason425 08-23-2004 11:31 AM

news flash: there are no pros for laptops...(ati)
