actually some bios's support 0-writing a HD clean, but it takes a long time

anyways, it's doubtful your bios supports it. You would probably have to boot to a startup disk, and use windows format. Unless you're under NT, then the windows 2k/XP installer will format it for you

i'm starting to have painful second thoughts..(about sp2) but i'm still trying to figure out what is bringing my laptop to a screetching halt about once a min for about a sec... a little annoying.. still trying to figure it out...

What are you trying to accomplish with this? Are you trying to permanently delete the data so that software like Ghost can't see it (low level format like what U235 mentioned - all 0's), or just basic stuff that hides it (like a format or repartitioning)?
