internal to external cd rom drive?

Hi,

I was waundering if it is possable to turn an internal cd rom drive to an external usb one. I have figured out how the power goes into it, but i have no idea, with the 3 other wires in the usb cord and the 40 pin cord in the back of the cd rom drive, how i can connect them and make it work. I know that their are cd rom drives that use just usb and i need to know like with pictures how to connect it all up to make it work . Thanks Guys!!

Ok I didn't say this right, I have a slim cd rom drive that I pulled from old computer. I know that they make drives that use just the usb cord to power and send the data to the computer. So far I figured out,and don't laugh, that the red and black cord in the usb cord and the red and black ones in the back of the cd rom drive go together to give the drive power. Now follow me I need to know with the , i think it is , 40 pin data cable, how do I hook it up so I don't need one of those boxes and can use just the usb cord. I want to go from internal to external without a box thingy and hook it up. I need pictures or information or step by step guide. Here is what I have.

i think it would be very very complicated to make
as you have to draw some kind of big ass MUX or DEMUX diagram and figure out what each pin does what

i would just get this
http://www.cooldrives.com/usbtoidebrad.html
or this
http://www.cooldrives.com/usb20toidead.html

depending on your cd rom drive specs
i dont know if the 500ma is enuf to run that CDrom
in most cases yes
but to port that power with simple wiring would be hard

i still havent found any wiring diagram for it yet
so i think its just best to buy one at this moment until some hardcore EE person comes along and does this for his/her past time hobby

i think there is a chip in that thing that converts analog to digital

therefore, a MUX or DEMUX or some sort of circuit has to exist in there

so unless you are an IC chip manufacturer, i dont see how you can do it with just an USB wire and a 40pin IDE cable

LOL
