hdd blew up...

ok guys, my hardrive in my main machine went bad this weekend. so that means i need a new one, and the wife actually agreed and we will be getting a new hdd! anyway, i don't need a huge drive due the fact that i'm used to small drives (the sadly departed one was only 9 gig). so, having said all that, y'all know anything about this drive?

thanks!

you get what you pay for, and that samsung has lots of SLOW!

I have a hard time recommending that drive, and would much prefer dragon's but since you're going that cheap, you might as well, since there isn't much to choose from.

edit: actually, i'd pick up an 80 gig WD SE (I have 2 of em) they're like $60 or something and are a lot better than that samsung

its not that much faster. only 2ms quicker seek time and 6mb more cache. remember, i'm not a performance freak like alot of y'all are, as long as its decent (see PIII 750 that i am happy with) its fine with me.

actually Aemon i think that drive looks pretty good.....

i mean they're right you get what you pay for, but realistically if you have about a 50$ price range, that looks pretty good to me :)

he he i'm a performance freak but most of my family/friends are not lol.... i'm used to catering to non-performance freaks

cherrypie 12-13-2004 12:33 PM

oh.... and i have actually never bought samsung before..... i kinda like Western Digital and Seagate (done well with both)

so i would suggest one of these....

Western Digital

or

Seagate

Aemon_ 12-13-2004 01:09 PM

thanks cherry, yeah, i've never dealt with samsung drives either, i've only used wd and seagate myself. thats why i was curious about the samsung. i think i'll probably go with that wd. looks good to me.

dont get me wrong, i want a faster computer, i love performance. but i dont have time to play games, much less the permission to spend time holed up in the office. for what i do with my machine it works great, but i did find a pretty good deal on a cpg/mobo combo on pricewatch....

thanks again.

yeah my current drive is a samsung and I love it.. very reliable.. Though I have to RMA it cause I opened it up and played around with it :P

I'd suggest looking at Outpost.com, since they often have 80 and 120 gig drives with 8 megs of cache fo about $50. Recently they had an 80 for $35 after MIR.

For example, the have a 160GB Hitachi for $49.99 after rebates.
