64-bit FSB problems
Hello Techware, its good to be back.. (i guess)..
Prometheus told me to post this because I am soon to be purchasing a new computer. Of course I am going to build it myself. But it will be Socket 754 with a 1600mhz FSB mobo, and an 2800+ 64-bit processor. Now I read from somewhere that the FSB is integrated into all processors or something like that where they emulate the frequency of the FSB. SO i want to know if my processor is truly compatible and able to run at a 1600mhz FSB frequency or is it a farfetched idea. 8) If it isn't so much to ask... (can Jason425 please not reply to this post) It would be very appreciated... Your input would be greatly appreciated... (not jason425's *cough cough*) *edit by Prometheus: Fixed my name so its fully spelled and made the title non spanish* |

He's right, any of them will work in one of those motherboards. Also, no, the FSB isn't just emulated, it truly does run at 1600MHz. Some people may be confused about the FSB being emulated by the memory controller being integrated onto the processor.

Apparently is confused.

my thinking exactly.

Darn it Jason you had to go and pull a stunt like that.
But thank you for answering my question. Now answer this one: Does this look like a good setup to you? AMD64 2800+ Soltek 754 1.6GHZ FSB 512MB CorsairXMS PC3200 2-2-2-5 Raptor 10K RPM, 36.7GB Evga 6800GT One copy of Half Life 2 (stock cooling)(integrated sound) (I already have a system.. Read my signature... but I'm making a mini Internet Cafe in my basement... SO humor me with your advice...) |
yes it does.. down the road you can add another 512 of ram.. also note that an Athlon 64 2800+ is FASTER than an athlon xp 3200+. So that gives you some nice room to upgrade later on. I just jumped into the 754 bandwagon myself, if you look at my sig.

that motherboard screams POS to me.. and the 74 gig raptors are better in several ways I hear.. and you'll want a gig eventualy if not now.
and get at least the 3000+ if you can afford it.. I would save up for better stuff if possible.. |
