Weird Lines on Screen

The other day out of nowhere my screen starts going nuts. It has a bunch of horizontal and vertical lines on the screen and they kind of move when the mouse is over them. When I open a new window, for example an AIM window or Notepad, parts of the program will display fine, without any lines, and other parts will continue the line pattern on the screen. When my computer starts up, it has weird gray images that almost look like Japanese letters on the Windows XP splash screen. I checked a different monitor and the picture is still weird, so it isnt monitor, so Im guessing its video card...? Anyone ever heard of a problem like this?

Thanks a lot.

I uninstalled/reinstalled the new 4.12 drivers from ati, and then reinstalled direct9c just for kicks. The screen got better, then I uninstalled FRAPS and it seems to be working fine. Could it really have been FRAPS interacting weird with the video card, or something else?

Ok first of all, dont double post... Just edit the first one.. FRAPS screws everything up. I couldnt play Counterstrike for weeks. You need to uninstall that ASAP and install latest drivers from www.guru3d.com As far as the lines on your screen go, my Ex-girlfriend had this problem.. First check the Monitor Prongs.. Are they bent.. Is it in all the way..Is your VGA card working properly, uninstall reinstall that.. Try a different monitor.. If its the same problem then its your VGA card.. Did you drop your monitor recently? If all else fails give the keyboard a good whack..

Yeah I think it really was FRAPS, my friend suggested it cause it was giving him problems too. Sorry for double post.

No problem I'm just messin' but yea FRAPS is a pain, there are some better Screen Recording Apps. But FRAPS def. messes up your drivers. ITs like spyware for your video card if that makes sense.

glad I read this post as I was thinking of using FRAPS for some game recording, but now I'll try something else
