If money were no object...what motherboard would you go with

I'm going to be using it for graphics-intensive games and I want the very best. I'm thinking about using PCIe Radeon X850 card(s), but am unsure as to the motherboard to go with.

If I get an ASUS A8N-SLI Deluxe, I can put 2 Radeon X850s on the board and scream along for years (likely) without having to upgrade.

If I get an ASUS A8V Deluxe, I get only one card, but it's a nice MB.

Any other combinations out there that would work for a fast system?

Dear Rind... I believe the SLi configuration is strictly for Nvidia based cards only... please correct me if I am wrong.

Rind 01-15-2005 05:46 PM

oh yeah

Well, of course you are correct...what was I thinking.

Thanks for pointing that out.

It's hard to say what is the best mobo without considering the CPU and RAM you intend on using with it.

Rind 01-16-2005 03:09 AM

well...

Well...what would you suggest then. It seems that each MoBo has certain RAM types/brands that it can use. So whatever mobo I chose would then receive the best RAM possible...and at least 2GB of it.

TWL will be getting a few cards soon with motherboards to benchmark, so if your not in any hurry check back to see how we rate some of the latest products.
An interesting benchmark will be to load up those video cards with the AMD FX55 or later processor against Intel's latest proc.

actually.. its not stated anywhere, at least not that i read. in order to make use of the technology you have to have an nVidia SLi chipset, i do not believe you have to have nvidia graphics cards, else they would have SLi versions of their cards, which ive never heard of. either way.. id defeinitely take the A8N SLi Deluxe. i mean, w00t!

i did my senior project a few months ago on Expansion slots and the only information i ever found about the types of cards is that they had to be the same manufacturer and model. if they were using whackass data structure or protocol or drivers or some wierd stuff like that then the video cards would have to be SLi specific video cards. but like i said, bling bling money aint a thing... dual 6800 Ultras in an SLi deluxe. with a 96" grand canyon display.

EDIT: the company [L] that makes those grand cannyons is out of business.
