Require Ctrl-Alt-Del at login
 

Does anyone know how to require Ctrl-Alt-Del at login with windows xp?  I looked in the microsoft help and it said to click on the advanced tab in the user control panel. I do not have an advances tab, and I am in windows classic mode.  Does anyone have any suggestions?

Use the Classic Logon Screen

To temporarily use the classic logon screen, press CTRL+ALT+DEL twice on the Welcome logon screen.

To configure Windows XP to use the classic logon and shutdown screens for every logon session, do the following:

Click Start, and then click Control Panel.

Double-click User Accounts.

Click Change the way users log on or off.

Click to clear the Use the Welcome screen check box.

NOTE: If you disable the Welcome logon screen, you also disable the Fast User Switching option.



Require Users to Press CTRL+ALT+DEL Before the Classic Logon Screen Is Displayed

If you want to set up a requirement for a user to press CTRL+ALT+DEL before the classic logon is displayed, in the same manner as it behaves on Windows XP Server:


Click Start, click Run, type: regedit, and then click OK.

Select the Winlogon subkey at the following registry location:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon

Click Edit, click New, and then click DWORD value.

Change the value name to "DisableCAD" (without the quotes) and press ENTER.

Keep the data value set to 0 which is displayed as 0x00000000(0).

Thanks greatly wizbones! I was looking all over to figure out how to fix this. The funney thing is the both the Microsoft help file and the knowledge base showed the wrong way, which did not work--damn microsoft.

Alternately, if you join your computer to a domain (well, a Windows 2000 domain, at least), it will give you access to the "classic" users control panel, at which point you should be able to change the option.

It's been a while since I actually did this, so I'm not guaranteing it, but if you have access to a domain, I think it'd be worth the time to check it out.

I have done everything suggested above, but I cannot get xp to require a logon from cold or warm boot.

if I logoff, then it does requre logon, but to just shutdown and then restart it goes back to the desktop without requiring logon.

How can we force logon anytime.

Windows 2000. I login as administrator then immediately the window pops up saying press CTRL-ALT-DEL. I press CAD then the login window appears again. This goes on and on in a vicious cycle. Does anyone know how to resolve?

hmm.. get in safe mode and see if you installed any fruity software or mess with some settings..

Jenn_texas, try holding the shift key right after you hit enter on your user/pass entry. hold it until you are into windows. if this works, check your startup folder for any rogue entreis
