Help with Windows 98?
Ya, my comp sucks out loud. On this one I have XP, but on MY computer, really my sister's old comp, I have windows 98. Unfortunately I ran the normally decent program Spybot: Search & Destroy on it, and it annihilated explorer. Everytime I boot my comp up, there's an illegal error and explorer dies. Normally I keep explorer closed and just reboot when I need to do something else(despite it's shittiness, my comp reboots in about a minute and a half). But I can't even get explorer open in the first place, and you can't run jack thru DOS. Nothing graphical as far as I know.
Anyway, my first question is, is there a way to start a new task without explorer in 98? I know you can in XP cuz I always have explorer closed in XP so it runs faster, but in 98 there's no thing like that in the Cntrl Alt Delete thing. Secondly(since I "lost"my copy of the 98 CD, well really I ran it through a woodchipper when I was angry with it, never figuring this would happen lol) does anyone have a copy that they can send a ISO of to me thru email? I'll provide a Gmail account for anyone who has a 98 cd and can get an ISO of it, or anyone who already has an ISO(or something else I can make my own 98 CD from). Yea yea it's pirating, whoop-dee ****in doo. Its windows NINETY-EIGHT, if anyone has a problem with pirating it, keep yer yap shut then. It's not like microsoft can possibly squeeze anymore money out of it. Think of it as technological alms for the technologically poor. . |
Did you read the rules man?
anyway! do you still have your information and stuff for 98? im dure that if youve got like a reciept or serial code or something you can get another copy. if not id borrow someone elses and try tpo recover your install. otherwise, buy a new copy and install. of cousre, for like $200 more you could get a new machine with XP. |
Yes I read the rules, and Im flat broke.
For the record, here are the rules: In short we dont want to hear about- -Spam websites (except discussion of aoviding them) -Yahoo Pool Cheats -Malicious Hacking -Game cheats so you can win online games -Porn websites -Disgusting joke websites I do believe that pirating Windows 98 is NOT on that least. Although I do sometimes skim stuff and miss something, nope thats the 8th read of that rules and I still don't see piracy anywhere on it. :shake: I'm pretty sure I'm not violating any rules. Pirating Win 98 ain't malicious hacking, nor do I believe it's hacking at all. I've talked to ALL of my friends and just about every kid at my school(160 in full high school) and no one has a copy of Win 98 that I know of. I've been trying to get ahold of a copy of Win 98 for many months, and as I said I ran my Win 98 CD thru a woodchipper, then my brother(against my will) ran the manual thru a shredder then burned it. Yes we hated Win 98(I like it better now that I've got it on a less crappy computer) but it's all I got. So are you going to try and get me banned again or are you going to help me? EDIT: I refuse to buy another copy of Win 98. I already paid for it. |
dragon who cares.. it's windows 98 lol...
either go DL it from somewhere (you know where..) or buy it off ebay... it was you thatdestroyed the CD... |
Oh oh where can I DL it?(no I DONT know where to DL it lol)
Also, is there ANY way to start new tasks with explorer closed on Win 98? Like Ctrl Alt F4 Del? lol Jason, any chance you could PM me a place to DL it? We'll keep it hush hush  Or do you have a copy of it you could send me an ISO of? If you don't have an email with enough storage, I'll invite you to gmail. It's got a gig of storage *drools* I love my gmail. |
Prometheus-Let me make this clear...TWL will not sanction any pirating of software....as ancient as 98 is it is still under copyright protection.
Go look on IRC channels to find out where to get it Undernet has plenty of places..... |
buy it or use free software, thread locked for inappropriate content
