How the Xbox 360 affects PC gamers

Wowsa. So the Xbox 360 finally got announced. To be honest, I'm absolutely blown away. The specs are utterly mouthwatering, and the design and some of the thought that has clearly gone into making this a desirable bit of kit is simply outstanding.

The article is good but a slight mistake. AMD has no chips that run at 3.2, not even the dual cores the highest of which runs at 2.4ghz.

Yep I am wrong, it does say 3.2 but also says 2.4 in relation to the AMD dual core.

The article states...

The processor, then. Let's get some context. PowerPC chips are made by IBM, and run the Apple PowerMac chips. Whilst we don't know the exact model numbers for these chips yet, they're clearly a variant on the G5 chip that runs the PowerMac, since the Xbox 360 development kits - what programmers use before final hardware is available - were Macs.

That is absolutely insane. the PC equivalent to that has to be in the the thousands. Im defintiely picking one up when the come out. Im a bit worried about the price though. Its gonna hve to be high. at least $400, probably alot more i expect.

48 pipelines is crazy too..... I hope the sound quality is as unmatched as the graphics are... cuz i Love my THX, DTS, [and other sound acronyms]... maybe the USB functionality wont be limited and we get get external plugins like biometrics, Extigy, fishtanks from thinkgeek, and other neat-o gadgets.

Unfortunately, all three systems (the Revolution included) will support Dolby Digital, but not DTS, which provides far greater sonic benefits. With Dolby Digital, they will likely not even support DD EX, which provides for an added rear center channel.

Also, it looks like Blu-ray has won this match (which it was obviously going to win, Sony being a primary supporter of it) since HD-DVD discs are only going to be supported by the Nintendo Revolution...
