Seagate Releases Next Generation SATA II Drives

Seagate announced their 7200.9 family of SATA II desktop drives. The first drive to hit the channel will be a 500 GB SATA II 3.0 Gbit/second drive with 7200 RPM and NCQ. Seagate will be offering SATA II drives all the way down to 80 GB. The hard drives also tout Seagate's industry leading 5-year warranty. We will be publishing a review of Seagates 500 GB SATA II drive in the coming weeks.

ugh. They should be working on improving the hardware itself, not the interface. The current ATA drive transfers peak at about 60-70 MBPS. They should be more dedicated at developing larger 10,000 RPM drives, wtth lower seek times & better access times

I agree completely. It doens't do much good having all these new interfaces when the hard drives can't keep up to them.
