Is There anyway to transfer windows to new HD
Is there anyway i can transfer windows XP to my new HD without having to reinstall windows to that drive?
You can use Norton ghost 7.0 or above (versions below do not support NTFS)
One thing, make sure the new hard drive is exactly the same size as the other one, or else it will not work.
It can be larger too
Is there any good free ones?
Oh you can find free ones ;)
I used Norton Ghost for the first time about a month ago and something went wrong and it messed up both drives haha. |
I used 7.0 on my computer and my mothers. Transferring Windows 2000 NTFS from an 80GB drive to a new 160GB. I had some slight problems. When Windows would boot from the new drive, with the old drive still connected, after I would login, it would log me right back out. Really wierd. But I ghosted again, and booted windows from the 160g without the other drive connected, and it booted just fine. I then shut down, connected the 80 gig back, and it continued to boot just fine. Wierd

The Ultimate Boot CD has some ghosting utilities that should do the trick (drive -> same or larger-sized drive).
