Laptop shuting off for no reason?????
 

hey im new to this forum this would be my first question i just bought this laptop a few months ago and the other day i was useing it and suddenly it just turns off with no warning it was as if i unpluged it i turned it bak of as soon as it went off....a message appeared it turns off again....i think a min and deside that it was doing this because the computer was over heating so...i unpluged it and let it cool for a while after cooling i tryed again
....worked fine....so my question is ....is this occuring from a internal problem or dose th computer have a emergency shut down when it begins to over heat (i had it siting on a bed at the time the fans where not getting air)

Sounds like overheating to me, and if it doesn't happen again, you probably solved your own question with where you were using it.

I would agree with overheating, put it on a flat surface that gives it proper access to the vents allowing air circulation

What was the "message" you got after you turned it back on? It's possible there is a circuit problem.

Sounds like over heating. Anyway the problem with laptops is that if they don't get enough air they will overheat. Be glad it shuts itself down for protection. A friend of mine has no such functionalty on his laptop and it just heats up until the solder in the power connection melts - then he had to take it into HP to get it fixed. In fact they were going to charge him to get it fixed until I called them up for him and explained in legal terms why they were going to fix it for him for free.

I think the moral(s) of the story are:

As Prometheus mentioned, always stick it on a flat surface. I have a wooden board, so I can stick it on the board and stick it on the bed.

Be thankful it switches off before its insides are liquidised.

Never sit a laptop on your lap (apparently there are lots of cases where men have (very slowly) cooked their testicles because of the heat.

Mm.. raising the scrotal temperature to the 70 degree range isn't quite 'cooking your testicles' but that's an interesting article. I can't wait for someone to sue a laptop manufacturer for their infertility because there are no warning labels on laptops to tell you that you *might* be temporarily affecting your ability to father children by working with a laptop in your lap.

From now on I think that I'll only and only ever put my laptop on a flat surface..this whole burning thing is scaring me a tiny bit :)

This story reminds me of the first versions of Dreamcast (I do believe that these were actually buyable.) If you turned them upside down, and played with them....it would catch in fire :/
