Best Computers for Internet Graphics

What laptops are best for graphics internet web design?...Do most pros perfer Apples ibook series?

Jason425 04-30-2006 11:54 PM

I have an ibook... powerbooks are better, but more expensive.

In my book, it isn't about platform, but the programs availible for each. Check what programs you want to use, and go from there.

I guess it all depends on the the graphic card and the screen.

not as much - for "internet graphics", you don't need much of a video card. If you're making flash videos or the like, maybe you'll need a mid-range card.

Wide viewing

What ever you do, make sure you get a screen that has a really wide viewing angle! I bought one which has a crap viewing angle, it's a nightmare for photography and web design. (all I have to do is tilt my head an inch and the colours change slightly).

Mac is the accepted standard among most graphic artists I know. That's a good point about the viewing angle though. I've gotta admit I never thought about it, but now that it's been mentioned, I see the point.

Ditto...good point...I was getting really wrapped up in everything else...and didn't even bother to consider the viewing angle...thanks.

viewing angle is big... the monitor i'm on is fairly sub-standard regarding viewing angles, but i'm not a graphics pro so it's not a huge deal.

uh I wouldn't rec. an ibook, get a macbook pro if anything...if this is going to be your main development machine, get a desktop.

could you define what you need this for a little better?

jason had the right idea when he was going for the utility of the software. to take that a bit further what hardware do you need?

ex. flash card reader for your camera? extra usb for in the field hardware attachments (scanner, printer, webcam for those "special" home videos for your not-so-for-everyone site)

I think most laptops will be able to do what you want. The tradition for graphics "pros" is that they are mac users. This image is kept up by low student prices for laptops at art colleges that apple discounts.

I'm pretty sure that one can be a good internet graphic designer without all the fancy proprietary stuff (pay software, etc.) If I were to go into this field I'm pretty sure I would go the route of what is most comfortable with me.. open source (think gimp, blender, ajax, mysql apache).

are you getting this for yourself?
