mock me if you will but...what is bess?
Sorry, but I'm clueless on this. I see all these "bess" posts and have never heard of it in my life. Can anyone fill me in?
Bess is a server level Internet filtering service used by many public schools which blocks out adult content, email access, yadda yadda, pretty much whatever the admin wishes to block.

ala, a proxy

oh ohhh. ok. thanks for the info :) Things make more sense now.
Good description, but it's not server-level, it's a gateway.
I am so glad somebody else asked this question because i had no idea what it was either, but didn't want to ask.
Always ask questions you have, at least here. You can delete it later on if you feel like it. It's questions that answers, and it's answers that make this place a resource.

Thanks for asking ninikins I too wasn't sure, glad to know what everyone is talking about now :)
I think the ones who do know about it would feel better if they remained ignorant of it :) So don't feel bad about not knowing, it's actually good that you don't have to cope with it.

Haha, I really thought I might be chased off the board by people laughing and pointing when I posted this. Not that I think anyone here is like that :p But I'm glad I'm not the only person here to learn about new stuff and not just discuss stuff we know.
