State Of The ISP Nation

ISP Planet takes a look at the "State of the ISP nation". The article details advancements in 3G technology, the seemingly premature predictions regarding the death of dial-up, as well as analyzing how ISP's are handling the first recession since the web really came to power.

Broadband is great but not yet readily available in most rural areas. And the rurals that do have it, well it's not in the affordable category.

The majority of dialup users tend to just use email mostly and will be around for a long time yet to come. Most of the clientel I support use dialup becuase they just don't have a need for speed. You can only read your email so fast you know.

So I wouldn't fret dialups going away anytime soon. For business it's a whole new ball game. But again the location of your buisness is the big question.

I live out in podunk and can get either cable or DSL but the cost is up there compared to the larger cities and what is offered.

Death of the dialup? Naw, it's not ready to go anywhere in my opinion. Great article I thought, thanks for passing it on.

I got to agree with the previous reply, there's too big of a market out in the sticks that won't have broadband access for yrs to come.  I'm not yet 40, and I can clearly remember when everybody in our little spot on the road was on a party line and a few folks still are!  You can get cable here, but not broadband access.  Heck none of the nationwide players even have our area code in their data base, nor do they seem to care.

But on the up side, I don't worry aboout getting any funny powder in any of my mail & you only have to wait in traffic once a year on homecoming weekend when they have the parade on main street.  And by the time we get technology advances out here the bugs have been fixed!
