The straight dope on AMD's 790FX chipset

I'm looking ahead to upgrading my PC to the AMD AM2+ platform. Asus has a mobo based on this, the M3A32-MVP Deluxe which supports Quad Crossfire X. Would using my single Geforce 8800GTX graphics board present problems? Am I good to go? Your advice would be appreciated. Thank you.

Yes you could a single nvidia card with this platform. It is not too popular but will work. Just keep in mind that if you ever want to upgrade to SLI you will have to buy a new motherboard to do so. Good luck if you have done so allready.

Like Lokie said, it should work just fine. But every time I have combined an nvidia graphics card with an ATI chipset all hell breaks loose. I get random errors and stuff just doesn't seem to work right. It could all be in my head but I eventually blamed the interaction between the gpu and the chipset. So now I only buy a motherboard that supports my current gpu, and vice-versa. Same chipset/gpu manufacturer for the win!

My $.02 on the matter.

I would strongly recommend getting Asus's board with an nForce chipset. Asus generally sells 2-4 versions of each board so there should be one. nForce genrally speaking is the chipset to beat, usually posting excessive features and better benchmarks than similar chipsets from other manufactures.

Plus you're guaranteed that it will play nice with your card.
