Laptop screen as 2nd monitor laptop
 

First off, hi, i'm new here :)

I have a working laptop screen taken from a dead laptop and I already know I won't be able to convert it to a seperate monitor, so my idea was to connect the screen directly to the laptop right before the external screen port (before it converts digital to analog). Would this work?

It's gonna be connected to a laptop that is going to be used as a digital photo frame.

that sounds like a pretty cool idea. where did you come up with it?

Iron Man :P Actually, I lied, it's not just a digital photo frame, it will also connect to several things in the room which it controls through voice activation or touchscreen :)

All good in theory, we'll see how it ends up..

Still, ANYONE know if it would work to connect the extra laptop screen straight to the digital "channel"? Would it not be able to connect or not be able to find the thing?

I guess if no one could answer this i'd have to try it out myself..

i got a laptop i don't use that i wish i could canibalize the screen off of too.

There was a post a long time ago on Tom's hardware that showed how to make a cheap video projector using an old laptop video panel. I believed the article showed how to rewire the connector.

While the article is a bit old, it does still work as a cheap way to make a DIY projector.

If you do have a working laptop you can still set it up to function as an extra monitor by using a program called MaxiVista. Otherwise you can't really wire a cannibalized laptop lcd to work as a second monitor. I haven't heard of anyone successfully being able to do it.
