How to rename the recycle bin
You may have realized that in Windows NT/2000 and various versions of Win9x, you absolutely cannot change the name of the recycle bin. The closest thing you can do is make a shortcut to the recycle bin and name the shortcut something else. That's not quite the same as physically changing the name.
You can get around this restriction by editing the registry. But remember, messing with the registry can really mess up your computer if you do thew wrong thing. Back up your data before attempting any registry hacks. 1. Run RegEdit. You'll find it in your Windows folder or go to the Start menu, select Run, and type REGEDIT.EXE. 2. Select "HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT" 3. Choose CLSID 4. Select "{645FF040-5081-101B-9F08-00AA002F954E}" 5. Double click on (Default) 6. You'll see the current name of your "Recycle Bin." Simple change it to whatever you want and close the Registry Editor. 7. Click on the "Desktop" and press F5 to refresh shortcuts. |

Re: How to rename the recycle bin
In m$ powertoys one finds TweakUI, with it installed
it is easy to change name. In control panel, start tweakUI, on it's desktop flap find recycle bin, rightclick and rename. |
Re: How to rename the recycle bin
Hi. The registry hack doesn't work in Windows XP, or at least for me. In addition, TweakUI as available for XP from Microsoft will not rename it -- right-click on recycle bin gets you nothing.
I still wanna know how to rename my bin. >:( ??? Stupid Microsoft. Morpheus |
