Emergency!
HELP GUYS!!!
this is big time mofo problem i installed this program called LCARS terminal it crashed even with the support of win2k pro program can be found here at http://www.lcars-terminal.com/ if u want more info on what it does and how it works anyways it screwed up my desktop and it is totaly blank now the taskbar is not even there and cant right click the only way i can use the comp is to press ctrl, alt, del then proceed to task manager and open New Task then run explorer.exe or cmd.exe to do things ive tried Repair from the win2k cd still didnt work i tried renaming the shdocvw.dll and didnt work i know formating is an easy fix but i have many files on there i need and apparently back up is not a solution due to large amount data so formating is the last way out any advises? also im thinking, when you log onto win2k, it loads the desktop config file of the logged on user i wonder where this could be located and be loaded properly if that would fix the problem... |
Someone else may know but a reinstall without format may help. Otherwise I would get Partition Magic, cut my hard drive in half and move my data over to the second partition. Format the first and reinstall.
|
the trouble with win2k is you cant reinstall and things are a pain when there is problem
you can repair, but cant reinstall without tearing the partition down also i have 2 win2k installations one on c that is having problems and one on D anyone know how to uninstall D's win2k without formating? |
You could try making a new user, and seeing if that helps (if you're able to navigate to the Users/Permissions control panel (the process is mshta.exe in Windows XP, if that helps you).

evil, did you ever make a backup or set up for restore ? If not you may want to boot off the Win2k install disk, then run a full automatic repair.

no
and my first post says Quote:

I would suggest what GR said - use Partition Magic. You can get a free demo of it I think (on their site if they do, in fact, have one).
|
there is really no point in doing that because i will lost the registry of the installed programs if done so
ive drove my comp to my friend to see if he could fix it without formating it |
:)
If it is just simple files bring the drive over if you do not have another pc, can put it in my removable bay, transfer the files onto my system, burn them or whatever and then you can reformat the drive and have all your stuff without loss, that is why I run a dual partition, if I crash windows or there is a huge error or somthing like your case, I can reinstall windows, and them all my files I need or install files are on the other partition, has saved my arse many times. Have not lost a file yet! Also now have backup :)

Oops thought you were vess for a second *L* my bad, I need to go to bed :)
