HD cooling - neccessary?
 
Yo, i just ordered the new WD 80 mb 7200 rpm 8mb cache hd and i'm wondering.. is it really necessary to cool it? anything would help, thanks..

if your system temp is above 35c and is lack of circulation, yes

a cheap one will do
or you can make one

that would be mboard temp? .. i have one exhaust fan under my vid card.. is that enough? if not if you know a cheap way to cool it lemme know. :rolleyes:

well n/m just threw down 10 bucks on a 2 fanned HD cooler.. i wont stand for any HD overheating in MY case 8)

Yes the wd 8mb cache needs cooling, the damn thing gets blistering hot when running without circulation, I have mine in it's own bay with it's own 80mm fan "antec case makes it possible" That particular drive is the hottest I have run so far by allot. Made my maxtor ata133 drive seem cool under the same conditions.

yea i'm coolen the p4 lol i have a vantec fan rated at 3 ghz.. on the loud but safe side with that. wouldnt dare usen the stock fan at this speed.

I can't say for sure from experience, but I doubt it needs additional cooling. I did personally just order the exact same two drives you ordered, but also have two CoolerMaster CoolDrive 4002's sitting here that I intend on using with them ;).
