malfomed url can erase harddrive's with xp
http://www.theregister.co.uk/content/4/27074.html talks about an interesting vul on XP. Until SP1 is applied clicking on a malformed URL can wipe your harddrive. That's right one click and your harddrive is almost as clean as format C:

it can't delete every file due to files being in use, but it could delete a fair few that would mean a format and reinstall next reboot
