Installed the XP SP-1 yet ?

Here is yet another MS security flaw, in XP. If you have been dreading the huge SP-1 update, you should read this report by Steve Gibson and maybe run his fix, then you can install the SP-1 anytime later. ( If the security flaw bothers you. )

Yeah, I think I read an article about that. I saw there was some way to fix it through changing specific registry entires, and maybe a line of code in a file, but this looks easier. I think it's funny that Microsoft knows about it (because they went to the trouble of fixing it in SP1), but they wouldn't release a hotfix for it.

I tried installing Windows XP SP1, but I get a BSOD (like, KERNEL_STACK_INPAGE_ERROR or something). I'm going to reinstall Windows once I get my RMA'd hard drives back, so I can back up data, so I'll install it then.

I have installed SP1 successfully and without any problems. The only gripe I have about SP1 is that it stopped my Terminal Services web-based client from working on my PC :(

I have also installed SP-1 on several machines without problems... be prepared for a long wait time, though, even if you choose the express method.

I've been running SP1 at home and at work for almost a month without any issues. As for the Terminal Services Web Client, I use the MMC snap-in, so I don't know whether SP1 would break it or not at work. The MMC snap-in stills works like a dream and you can have open Terminal Services sessions to multiple machines at the same time! You can find the whole TSAC package here. TSMMCSETUP.EXE will install the Terminal Services Snap-in as 'Terminal Services Connections' in the 'Administrative Tools' section, which can be found either in the Control Panel or in the Programs menu.
