Segway Discussion

Well, first of all, I'd never heard of this thing until today, when I'm told there's supposed to have been lots of hype about it.  I spend a fair amount of time on the internet, around tech sites with news and whatnot, and I've honestly never seen anything about it.  Secondly, the fact that I'd never seen anything about it seems suiting.  I think it's fairly dumb that I'm hearing so much about it now.  It seems like a motor sccoter to me...just way too expensive ($3000, did I hear right?!?).  I couldn't never really see a downtown New York City filled with people riding Segways around.  If I saw someone with it (well, I did see the guy with it in the video...for what 1 mb of it the site would let me download before cutting me off) it seems to me like one of those Razor scooters that were popular for about 6 months...and were also way too expensive ($100 for a couple wheels and a little piece of metal?).  They seem like something that some image-based company (maybe the development center for Apple)  would get, so they look trendy...and they would all ride around the hallways to go get their latte, meanwhile spilling it on themselves on the way back.

I suppose there may be some huge part to this that I'm missing, but from what it looks like to me, and based on the somewhat limited reading I've done about it, this is another gimick that probably will never truly get popular (because of its price tag), but would only get real use as a toy.

Lets hear what you think.  I'm done ranting for now.

I have had my laugh for the week! I can see traffic jams on the sidewalks of New York.

People get fatter  and fatter and move far to little
this will just increase helth problems.
But if it replaces the use of internal combustion
vehicles it will improve the environment.
