VIA moves up CD-RW chip production to October
Digi-Times reports:
VIA Technologies recently confirmed that due to faster-than-expected development progress, its new 48x CD-RW drive chips will be introduced this month, one month earlier than originally scheduled. Read it here |
VIA is going to make a really good product in the CD-RW component area. One would think, however, that they would be doing research in the DVD area for more efficient, cheaper methods. Well, I guess, it would most likely be derived from CD's, except in a case like this, there is no hard-and-fast standard yet for DVD's like there is for CD's.

one thing that i wish can be fixed sooner is the issues of different types of DVD-R, DVD-RW, DVD+RW
when will they standarize things and unify so things can be easier??? |
Things will only become standardized once a certain type takes dominancy. The DVD+R and DVD+RW standard is by far the best for the consumer. They have the most efficient technologies, and they can be read by home theater DVD players. Recorders using the DVD+R and DVD+RW standard are also faster. The only reason why DVD-R and DVD-RW haven't left the stage is because they want their royalties.

is Kenwood the one that holds the license for DVD-RW?
|
No. It is actually a bunch of manufacturers which have formed the DVDRW Alliance. Most of the benefits can be found here.

no i was asking for the DVD-RW
but thanx the link is educational for me |
I believe it is that the DVD Forum is peeved with the standard.
