Attack On Internet Called Largest Ever
"The heart of the Internet sustained its largest and most sophisticated attack ever, starting late Monday, according to officials at key online backbone organizations.
Around 5:00 p.m. EDT on Monday, a "distributed denial of service" (DDOS) attack struck the 13 "root servers" that provide the primary roadmap for almost all Internet communications. Despite the scale of the attack, which lasted about an hour, Internet users worldwide were largely unaffected, experts said." Washington Post |
Yeah, I read that this morning on slashdot
I thought UUNET was only an IRC server ;D |
13 "root" servers for the whole internet. I would have thought there would be more. Guess there not including the redundancy systems thought...

eeks!!
where are those servers located? is one of them from Sping? |
i think the 13 servers manage the larger backbones between important bridges..like to other countries or whatnot, and some of the larger dns servers.
thats probably why the majority of people didn't feel the effects. |
