Help...NTLDR missing on xp!!!!!
 

Hi all and thanks for reading..I was deleting..so-called junk from my xp system and when I rebooted it comes to NTDLR missing and will go no farther,,has anyone experienced this? PLease help!

I've never experienced this particular problem, but if you boot off your Windows XP cd, you should be able to run a Windows XP repair. This *should* solve the problem.

The file ntldr appears to be stored in C:\WINDOWS\ServicePackFiles\i386 (for me at least, running Microsoft Windows XP Professional SP-1). Alternately, you could boot to a command prompt, and then put the file ntldr (from someone else's computer) on a disk, and copy it to that location...and see if that solves your problem.

hi.. Thanks for the response...My pc did not come with an xp cd..only the recovery cd..do you think ofice max or office depot has the cd?

Yes they usually have have XP Pro/Home

I know this is kind of a a stupid question...but is there a disk in the drive when you try to boot? I know 2k Said NTDLr is missing if you had a non-bootable flooppy disk in the drive and it tried to boot off that

no...no disks in the drive..but since you have mentioned it ..it seems as if my drives have changed..like for my cd it is drive A and for floppy it is drive b..i thought it was different

ah. that might indicate your bios might have reset something (which could be the problem here)

I don't know your level of technical knowledge. But if this makes sense do it, if not, say so:

Go into your cmos configuration, look for your bootable devices, and make sure IDE0 (this could say HDD-0, or another similar name) is listed as a boot device

ok I can go into my bios by pressing F10 on start up..is this what you are talking about?

My bad. The file 'ntldr' is just located in the root of C:\.
