I just found this.
Now this is getting a little ridulous. After the record companies put encoding on some cds that won't let u play them on macs. Now microsoft is helping them on their side. Come on.

It is no fair. I also would use Mac OS X instead of microsoft.

all this does is push more people towards getting their music from p2p networks

all it takes is one person to record the music from their stereo > line in and put it on a p2p network to get it out, cd protection won't stop music sharing until analogue systems disappear completely...

Which I don't think they will. There are so many people that still play records(LPs). Also a lot of people still have tapes that they want to convert, like me, to cds.

This is so frustrating, I don't understand why people continue to try and protect software/CDs. There will always be some one out there with the talent and time to find a work around to the encryption. Instead of spending handfuls of money trying to stop people from doing so, why don't they use these funds to try and find a way to embrace file sharing / cd copying technologies? The way I see it is there are 2 choices, you can bitch and moan and fight a futile battle, or accept it and use it to their advantage.

That idea is good, but you need to look at the situation through their eyes also. They are in it to make money, if one person copies a program and gives it out to his family and friends, then the software company loses those people who could have paid for that program. Just look at China, etc, with all the pirated programs there. The companies are losing a lot of money because of the pirates. If they did get rid of encription/ copy protection then there would be no way for them to make all the money they could have with the protection.

Now that I put their shoes on, I am all for having no protection, but where will they make the money from. We want the companies to update their software but if they don't make any money from them then there is less incentive to update the program.
