Help with new computer

I plan on building a spare computer...  I found a decent motherboard(a FIC AZ-11,) but I can't decide what videocard to install.  I have a 3DForce B-16 AGP 4x (nVidia RIVA TNT2 w/ 16M RAM) and a Voodoo3 3000 PCI w/ 16M RAM. I don't plan on usinging this computer for 3D programs, but for some emulations and regular internet and office apps.  I have also thought about adding my capture card to it, but I still don't need 3D acceleration.

And don't say buy another videocard...I'm trying to keep this as cheap as I can...my current prices should be less than $50...

Re: Help with new computer

Riva...Voodoo supports 2X AGP and the TNT support 4X (double agp bandwidth)

edit: although I would get another fic mb just above that one that has a KT133a chipset. That one has the KT133 and that has been known to have problems taking the fsb past 110

Re: Help with new computer

The voodoo can't support AGP 2x...it's PCI...

I think I  can stand the FSB being below 110, aslong as the processor gets it's 200MHz bus...

Acctually, I have a KT133a chipset in my computer, an Abit KT7A, and my old MB had a KT133 in it(KT7E)  or, I think that's what they had...  I just know they are VIA, and they are/were pretty good...

Is the Riva AGP?

Yes...look around for a Jaton 3DForce B-16, and you should some info on it.

Re: Help with new computer

Then OMG yes that is 4X AGP is your answer

You see the voodoo is on a PCI bus

PCI bus = 127Mbps

4X AGP bus = ~1019 Mbps

Almost a gig a second. Almost 8X the transfer rate. Yes I would definetly 1000%  suggest the 3DForce B-16.

Re: Help with new computer

There's that much of a difference  :o  I knew that AGP was faster, but not that much faster!  Well, I guess I'd use AGP even if the card wasn't as powerful as the Voodoo, sence I did see a small jump in performance when I finally upgraded my computer from the Voodoo to my GF2 GTS...

If you ever have to choose between AGP and PCI Vid cards...all other things being equal go the AGP.

Re: Help with new computer

But all things were't really equal. I'd kinda understand between PCI and AGP 1X. But he has a 4X agp mb and that TNT card is 4X agp compliant.

AGP 1X - ~208mbps

AGP 2X - ~519mpbs (what I have)

AGP 4X - ~1019mbps (what I want)
