Overclocking the Athlon XP 2600+
"Well, the first thing I did was raise the clock multiplier to find the point where the system loses stability. I managed to get the clock multiplier up to 20 to achieve 2666 MHz, but this did require 1.9V. While raising the voltage is not uncommon, I still get uneasy going too far over the prescribed limits. Going too far over the default can result in a significantly shortened CPU life. CPU's aren't invincible, my goal was to get a high speed for an indefinite period of time. Usually I find this voltage limit when it requires a significant increase in voltage to gain only a few (5-20) MHz."
