xp home registry crash
I have an unusual problem in my xp home registry, there is a file in there which if I click on , causes a complete shut down of the pc instantly !
the file is HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-20\software\policies\microsoft\system certificares\trust. I therefore cannot see what is inside so am a bit stuck as to what to do. am not sure if it will allow me to delete without crashing but I cant find any reference to this file any where on the net. I have also looked on various other pc's with xp home installed and this folder is empty. does anyone know if deleting it (if possible) will cause any problems? because obviously it can be recreated afetrwards without any values inside . If it helps I can also crash the pc by going to system imformation\software enviroments\ singed drivers . Hope someone can help  ps is there a programme that just lets you veiw registry folders ? |
Did you install any new hardware, software, microsoft updates, or update any drivers?
So far I can find nothing directly relating to your issue. This is as close as I could could come up with: Microsoft Knowledge Base |
registry crash
Thanks for the reply.
The problem goes back I think to drivers for my nvidia gts2 ti graphics card which was always blamed for the crash by the xp 'recovered from' screen ! I have since replaced it with an ATI card and removed all references to nvidia I could find. BTW it was while scanning the registry for nvidia that I discovered the file. Are you using xp and if so is there anything in you folder ? Obviously the problem is unusual  |
I'm not running XP, but the next box that comes in with it I'll see if I can reproduce your issues. Til then good luck, sorry wasn't much help.
