Only PIO!?

OK, I really need some help here.  I just installed 2K on my computer, and now I'm only running in PIO mode on my HD.  I know(or atleast thought) I was running in ATA100 when I had 98 installed, and my bios shows that I'm going in ATA100.  So whats causing 2K to only run in PIO?!

I really need to fix this because I do alot of video capturing and editing, and I need a very fast HD, PIO just wont cut it...

Am I the only one that knows what PIO mode is!?  >:(

OK, I don't know a textbook definition, but I know is somthing like ATA, but worse...  I think PIO mode 4 is worse then ATA 33!  If you look in your bios setup, you should see an option for either ATA or PIO for your IDE devices.

Well, I managed to get it working after I uninstalled some hard drive fix from microsoft and installed my Via 4 in 1 drivers again...

I just installed 2k for the first time and remember a setting like this. It your device manager. under one of your hard drive or secondary/pri hdd controllers. I don't remember offhand

Thats where I saw the setting was wrong... ::)

It was set to "DMA if avalible," but would still only go to PIO...

Re: Only PIO!?

go into your bios and make sure the UDMA for all of your drives are set to "auto"

Re: Only PIO!?

When you installed 2k did you tell it during the installing to use the correct driver for your IDE Controller?

During the installation you have an option to chose a third part driver. Put your motherboard CD in and use those drivers

Otherwise you get a generic driver

My 2 cents
