About two weeks ago we got hit by a new type of what I think is one of the best crafted types of virus (if there is such a thing).  Someone started circulating the following e-mail.

I found the little bear in my machine because of that I am sending this message in order for you to find it in your machine. The procedure is very simple:

The objective of this e-mail is to warn all Hotmail users about a new virus that is spreading by MSN Messenger. The name of this virus is jdbgmgr.exe and it is sent automatically by the Messenger and by the address book too. The virus is not detected by McAfee or Norton and it stays quiet for 14 days before damaging the system.

The virus can be cleaned before it deletes the files from your system. In order to eliminate it, it is just necessary to do the following steps:
1. Go to Start, click "Search"
2.- In the "Files or Folders option" write the name jdbgmgr.exe
3.- Be sure that you are searching in the drive "C"
4.- Click "find now"
5.- If the virus is there (it has a little bear-like icon with the name of jdbgmgr.exe DO NOT OPEN IT FOR ANY REASON
6.- Right click and delete it (it will go to the Recycle bin)
7.- Go to the recycle bin and delete it or empty the recycle bin.

IF YOU FIND THE VIRUS IN ALL OF YOUR SYSTEMS SEND THIS MESSAGE TO ALL OF YOUR CONTACTS LOCATED IN YOUR ADDRESS BOOK BEFORE IT CAN CAUSE ANY DAMAGE.

Now the e-mail is not a virus in the normal context but neither is the file at all.  The e-mail talks the user into being a virus and so far no anti-virus is great at protecting us against that without some serious drawbacks.  This just really sucks.

Next time before you post something like this. Please research it.

Thanks for letting us all know. I just got that email from someone else and after a little research I found out that it was a hoax.

I even said in the message it's not a virus "Now the e-mail is not a virus in the normal context but neither is the file at all".  Guess next time I'll bold it and add it to the top.  I just hope this doesn't begin a new trend in Virus's because a few of these targeted at win.ini and other critical files would suck.  Most of the computers I seen afected were mostly usable because not all web pages use java.  It had a small impact on most buisness people (unless they use the web alot and on java heavy pages)  All in all it could have been worse.  But yes it is a hoax don't delete the file.

I was just talkin about it.  I guess I didn't realize someone would read it and take it as a virus post.  I was focusing on the crafting of a new type of virus.  Looking back I guess if you don't know the subject I was goin' for it does look like another virus alert.  Last time I try to finish up a post as I'm going on a Fire call.

Yep, I saw the message indicates a "Virus Warning!" and First thing I go check on the websites for any hoaxes then I found that message is a HOAX then just ignore the warning messages, leave the files on my system :)
