Norton Antivirus 2003 Open Beta!
|
Re: Norton Antivirus 2003 Open Beta!
I hate norton, it screws with your mail server settings. I have been using McAfee for a long time now and it seems to be working great. I have to admit that my favorite is Trend Micro's antivirus, but it is hella pricy.

Re: Norton Antivirus 2003 Open Beta!
I used to feel the same way Keefe, but since the release of Norton 2002 I have made the switch and recommend Norton to everyone.
Norton acts as a gateway between your ISP and your email client. It does this for both incoming and outgoing mail. Only trouble I've seen with this aspect is someone manually goofing up the config of their email client. Although I like it I am not too hip on installing beta software on my work box. Thus the toybox for experimentation. Will check out the 2003 beta and check back with ya'll. Oh ya and in my opinion McAfee has made it pretty difficult for the average Internet user to update their software and do simple cleaning tasks. Again just my opinion. I am sure others will beg to differ with me ;D Be cool. |

Well, it's been 19 or so days and it's still trucking along nicely.
The auto updates etc have been great. I haven't had to mess with it at all other than clearing out the Quarinteen after an onslaught of W32.Klez.XX puppies get deleted (automatically I might ad) I have to say I like the new version, requires very little to no attention from me and hasn't affected my systems performance at all. Though I don't care the system works package. In my opinion it does slow your system down with all those programs constantly running in the background. I usually recommend to most of my clients to install just the anti-virus and skip the rest. But everyone has their own preference and I say more power to you. If it works don't fix it!! :wavey: |
Neato! we have Virusscan v5 here and it effects system preformance quite a bit

If you install Norton System Works it will affect your systems performance but thus far just running the anti-virus I've had zero trouble.
To give you an Idea of what I currently and more often than not always have running: Windows 2000 Pro AMD 800 MHz 700 + MB SDRAM 70GB Hard Drive Currently open and running: Outlook Express, Two SSH Sessions, Two Shoutcast Radio Broadcasts, 2 IE Sessions, QB, PSP 7, StarOffice which is what I'm posting now with, Seti@home, ECCP, Yahoo Messenger, WebTrends and I think that's about it. OH and of course Norton 2003  Isn't life grand? :D |
