New member, with a question. :) (Odyssey)

Hey all, I'm me - Odyssey. I'm a "social engineer" (Or so I tell myself,) and a VERY new hacker. I wouldn't even call myself that.. Maybe a new... umm... ah, screw it. Anyways, I have a question..

is remote keylogging possible? Not JUST that, but also so that you can send it under a forged fake e-mail, as an attachment that is programmed to look like it's a security patch, that when they download, it begins the keylogger. AND the keylogger has to e-mail/send to me somehow the keys.

yeah, if you didn't understand what I am asking... then, I'll try to explain better later. But thanks!

Hey,
I think this issue has been talked about in the past, and the admins don't really like the topic.

if you were a real social engineer you wouldn't need a keylogger to get passwords ;D

on remote keylogging, email is a crappy way of doing this. first because you have to send it to yourself, and this is easy to trace. second because email is generally unencrypted. but really to do this you'd have to write or use a trojan. i have to repeat that email is a really crappy way to recieve the keylogged data.

anonymous emailing would work to get it there, however.

don't do anything stupid. :p

Prometheus 02-11-2004 10:04 AM

social engineering n. Term used among crackers and samurai for cracking techniques that rely on weaknesses in wetware rather than software; the aim is to trick people into revealing passwords or other information that compromises a target system's security. Classic scams include phoning up a mark who has the required information and posing as a field service tech or a fellow employee with an urgent access problem. See also the tiger team story in the patch entry.
